Hi All , I'm planning on heading over to the USA in February 2013 for approximately 2 weeks . I am visiting friends in Boston/Providence Area for 4 days & also friends in Lawrence Kansas ( fly into MCI ) for 4 days also. It leaves me 5-7 days to experience other cities within the USA. I have been to the US previously on 5 occasions & have visited the following cities:

Los Angeles / San Fran / San Diego / Seattle / Las Vegas / Denver / Miami / Orlando / NYC / Philly / Washington / Chicago / Kansas City & Hawaii

I am happy to revisit any of these cities , but feel that there are other cities that are worth exploring.

As Im there in winter , I would appreciate any recommendations / experiences from other travellers , who have visited other US cities during winter, in particular during the month of February.

Thanks heaps in advance.

Do you ski? Or even like the snow? If so, Aspen hands down. Was there feb this year, great town, great restaurants. Otherwise considering where you have been already I think New Orleans. Great place and lots of fun and not so cold in winter.

I would like to go to Disneyworld so would choose Orlando but I have never been there so can't give any expert advice.

Yes- Orlando would be my choice as well. Not too cold in Winter and plenty of options like Disney or the lovely Harry Potter experience at Universal Studios. That is, if this kinda stuff is something for you, it certainly is for me :p

Yes Im a big "46yo" kid and don't mind my theme parks . A bit of a rollercoaster junkie. In saying that, I have done the Orlando theme parks about 4 years ago , so not rushing back there.

I do ski (although a bit rusty) & love the snow , hence the trip back this time in winter . My last 3 trips have been over summer , so was looking for a different experience . Im likely to get quite a bit of snow both in Boston & Kansas if mother nature is switched on . I skied Aspen for a day on my first trip which took me into Denver, that was some 20 years ago , Magic place , although I imagine it has changed considerably. As for New Orleans , its definitely in my thinking for this trip although I might have to time it after the SuperBowl , which I think is early Feb.

Or something slightly different, Dallas for a day or two, then over to San Diego and catch the trolley down to Tijuana.

Day or two in Tij, hire a car and drive down through Rosarita to Ensanada and stay overnight. Stop at Puerto Nuevo down and back for the best (and cheapest) lobster you'll experience.

Some shopping at the outlet stores on the border, trolley back to San Diego, then fly back to wherever you need to be.

If you plan the flights right you may even be able to squeeze in a reasonable status run. ;)

Have you considered Canada? Montreal and Quebec City for fantastic food and French culture.

Thanks for this suggestion. :p I have been to Montreal , Ottawa , Toronto, Niagara Falls , which was included in my first trip to the US ,some 20 years ago , but unfortunately missed Quebec City , which is on my bucket list to go to and only a quick jump up from Boston . I had a quick look & noticed that Quebec City have a Winter carnival on from 1-17 Feb , so definitely worth the consideration .

Can also recommend Nova Scotia.......this time it was August (not winter) we hired a car in Halifax & drove up to Gaspe. Got the car ferry over to St John and marvelled at the huge 50+ feet tides in the Bay of Fundy Bay of Fundy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not sure what the driving conditions are like in winter!

how about picking something you want to see and working out an itinerary/city from there?

-north esat USA is too cold for me in winter, but Niagara Falls is doable from Boston, and then yoiu can visit the great lakes district
-Yosemite (and Sequoia and Kings Canyon NPs) are beautiful in winter as it's greener and has more water, you can spend a wonderful 4 days in this area
-Grand Canyon is more comfortable in winter as summer temperatures are quite high, and one can always go back to Vegas, right?
-fly to Vancouver and ski Whistler/Blackcomb! other side of the continent, but i figure you'd be going back west to fly back to Aus?
