Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Virgin could and should probably invest a bit in a new hanger and heavy mx. That sort of area you can often get some government handouts.

I think they are opening a small facility in Perth soon which was jointly funded by the state.

Space is somewhat tight across the nation, but western Sydney might be an opp.
Maybe NTL could be an option for maintenance, they could use it after Jetstar shut its maintenance base there.

Yeah it's under construction. 35 million dollars. Maintenance hangar and apron space for VARA. Partnering with Perth Airport. If I remember I'll take a pic next time.

Rumours elsewhere suggest that VA may be looking at adding to the 8 E190-E2s going to WA for VARA.

Whilst that rumour suggests it could replace the remaining A320 "hellships" at VARA, i can't see VA operating two subfleets of E2s if that rumour happens, which suggests the all-Y units could live on the VA mainline services through VARA's incoming E190-E2s
Reported today that VA has cut their order of 8 from Embraer back to 4 and instead will lease 4 from Azorra.

According to the article, it's the transfer of 4 aircraft from Embraer directly to lessors (Azorra) in this case. So overall it's still 8 aircraft for VA (VARA), but 4 has been transferred to the lessor's books.

So assumedly the remaining 4 for VA on the Embraer's order books are coming on mortgage, whilst the 4 transferred to Azzora are the units leased.

No doubt transferred to Azorra at the right price (ie. on paper profit), whilst also hedging the longer term need for 8 aircraft (can offload 4 more easily).

VUI and VUJ reported on another forum as leaving the VA fleet this year (as both never got the Y-heavy cabin reconfigurations), followed by VUO. The 2 ex-Singapore/SilkAir (IJR and IXK) at this stage is reported to arrive at the end of February and early March respectively.

All subject to change of course.

What would the cost be to get the aircraft to Florida and back empty? Fuel and crew?
It’s probably the leasing cost that’s the killer, going rate on a discount would be $400k month local currency.

Likely a million dollar hit once all things factored. How long do they go over for? A few weeks?
