That departure area with no water cooler was a major issue especially with low cost airlines. Having said that, I managed to slip a full one through recently with a water container that doesn’t look like one. I tested it just to satisfy my own curiosity how these bottles were identified.

Just to note that I have consistently found Malaysia to be flexible and helpful. Three days ago we were due to return to Sydney from Taipei with them. Overnight we were advised first that our flight to KL was delayed to a time which would not have allowed the connection to Sydney. Then a little later we were told we had been rebooked on Cathay Pacific, arriving in Sydney a few hours ahead of the original schedule. All of this while we were asleep. This is the sort of thing we hope all airlines will do but few manage it without prodding or begging in my experience.

Interesting note about the seatbelt sign in the article. That’s one thing I’ve always liked about Qantas- they don’t use it for crowd control like a few other UAE and EU airlines I’ve experienced, so if that light turns on everyone sits down and buckles up pronto.
With EK ending their SIN-MEL service I may have to give MH a try for getting home to MEL out of Asia in the future since I’m a stubborn prick who refuses to take redeye flights

Not in all gates at KUL. As they have "At gate" security, where there is no water fountain there are occasionally toilets where one may attempt to fill a bottle at a wash basin, but not always.
