IHG Hotels that recognise status

I thought I would post my experiences recently with hotels in the same city and their recognition of elite status. My experience with SPG when I was Platinum was that not all hotels recognised your status, often making a big difference to my preferences when there was more than one property in the city I intended to visit, and this seems to be the case with PC as well.

Gold Coast
Holiday Inn - 2 stays post Plat, both upgraded to suites.
Crown Plaza - 3 stays - nil recognition.

With the HI in the progress of being refurnished I see no reason to return to the Crown Plaza in the future, besides the HI is closer to the beach.

Bangkok
Holiday Inn - 1 stay, upgraded to executive level room.

I have quite a few more visits planned and will report back on my experiences, hopefully other members can provide their experiences as well.

Melbourne:
Crowne Plaza - Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink - Yes
Holiday Inn Flinders Lane - Upgrade - No, Free Drink - Yes
Holiday Inn Airport - Upgrade - No, Free Drink Yes

Sydney
Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour- Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink Yes (except once)
Holiday Inn Darling Harbour - Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink - Yes

Gold Coast
Crowne Plaza - Upgrade - No, Free Drink - Yes

Perth
Crowne Plaza - Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink - Yes

Canberra
Crowne Plaza - Upgrade - No, Free Drink - Yes

How do you get hotels to recognise status?
How do they even know?

Assuming that you are logged in to your PC account when making the booking, the PC details should show the gold/platinum status to the hotel

Personally I check what type of room that they are giving me at check in and then , if there is no upgrade, then point out that I am entitled to one

Of course, should they then still not give one, then go to room and go to priorityclub.com and check availabililty there

My experience in Melbourne is that Crowne Plaza's idea of an upgrade is a room with a casino view. The Flinders Lane and Airport HIs have consistently given me a suite

I have fared better at the CP, even when it was a HI. I'll be in MEL for an overnight stay in a couple of weeks, maybe I can give the Flinders Lane people a chance to redeem themselves :)

Melbourne:
Holiday Inn Flinders Lane: Upgrade - Yes #, Free Drink - Yes

Perth:
Holiday Inn City Centre: Upgrade - No *, Free Drink - Yes

# Checked into room, recognised not upgraded, went back down to Front Desk and advised that I was aware there were Suites available - bingo, new room.
* Wasn't fully booked the night I arrived, but was for next two nights

Canberra:
Crowne Plaza: Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink - No

Auckland:
Crowne Plaza: Upgrade - Yes, Free Drink - Somtimes

Just book a King room and at check in see what they give you. If the person hasnt given you a suite, just politely remind

It is done. I shall report back what happens.

(HI was fair bit cheaper than CP on the night I booked, so I went with the HI)

Got the free drinks, but no upgrade (in fact the room I got was pretty coughola). Appears the hotel was booked out and all the good rooms actually had paying customers in them.

On the plus side, they did give me free valet parking...

HI at Frankfurt Airport North did not provide an upgrade (I booked an Exec room anyway). Had some complementary water in the room, but as far as I can tell that was all I got for PC Platinum.

Well I hope our upgrade experience on 23 to 25 June is like yours markis10 - staying there having booked the Winter Feast Package with Deluxe Room. Hoping for Suite as well (as it's a Mrs LW birthday weekend away).

Plus it'll help towards Plat re-qualification: with the bonus 1K for on-line booking, credit towards other ongoing bonuses and then the base points.

Crowne Plaza

Auckland
Upgrade: Yes (but declined as required twin)
Free Drink: Yes

Holiday Inn

Darling Harbour
Upgrade: Yes
Free Drink: No

Sydney Airport
Upgrade: No (Did not push it due to one night stay and a 9:30am check-in)
Free Drink: No

Perth City Centre
Upgrade; Yes
Free Drink: Yes

Reporting on behalf of IainF, he (as a PC Plat) received a Suite at HI Surfers Paradise on Friday night using an extremely cheap (internet consolidator) rate. Bodes well for us...

Crowne Plaza

Parramatta
Upgrade: No (Booked normal King room and no upgrade to King Deluxe)
Free Drink: No
Other: Box of Guylian chocolates + 2 notes welcoming me as a PC Plat

Crowne Plaza Canberra

Booked a regular Queen Room, upgraded to a Deluxe ( aka Park View room ). Useful upgrade since the Deluxe rooms have free highspeed internet

Dave

CP Parra First stay (May)
upgrade YES
drink YES

CP Parra Second stay (June)
upgrade NO
drink YES

What was interesting about the second stay was that the checkin chick didnt recognise my status or made any mention about being PS.

Later, making enquiries at the counter, another checkin staff provided the drink cards and welcome gift.

I always verify at check in that they have my card / status details and do also verify that they have done an upgrade. I have got an upgrade every time unless the hotel has been full this way

I will verify at check in from now on that they have recognised the status.

It's a shame that some of the hotels in the group make an effort to welcome you (HI Perth and CP Auckland for myself so far) but others don't seem to be bothered.
