My wife and I have accumulated over 500 000 and 200 000 QFF points respectively. I am currently platinum and she is gold. However due to financial downturns we will both be gold at the next renewal dates in late 2014 and probably drop to silver in the next year (we are both lifetime silver). Does anyone have any ideas on the best method to utilise these points? ASA's are a joke in points use and I have tried marginal ASA with no success as I am not in the travel industry. Classic awards appear to be very limited on international sectors but ok on regional sectors, but we have been multiple times to every part of Australia.

What are your travel goals? Your answer will depend on that, but from what I have heard the QFF store have really nice toasters!

How far are you and your wife respectively away from Lifetime Gold?

Depending on your future travel requirements, and how close you are to lifetime Gold, you may like to consider using your Qantas Points towards a Qantas Club membership.

1 year = 140,000 points
2 years = 215,000 points
4 years = 340,000 points

Remember, a Qantas Club member is usually allowed 1 guest. It may be worth considering for one, if not both of you should you not be successful in booking preferred flights prior to your tier changes.

Just my 2 cents...

Have another look at MASAs, especially as your in QLD. TSV - DRW for 24000 points plus $300 odd dollars scores 140 SC, or look at CNS to NZ via SYD for similar outlay, if you travel together work on one keeping status via points to make to most of your points bank.

Dont be afraid of MASAs, value is never easy to find, neither is gold ;)

Qantas club at $480 + joining fee if applicable or 140,000 points .........

140,000 points Aus to North America on cx j.......

I know where I would be spending my points!!!

Definitely book a J award booking or RTW. CX has great J & F availability Hong Kong to LAX.

Just further to that....if you book J awards you won't need qantas club anyway as you J ticket gets you into the lounges (where provided) for free :) win win!

Or pay $50 to become AFF Gold, and get the Corporate Qantas Club rate on offer for gold members (in excess of $50 saving). You're even further ahead.

I'd be looking at 2 x 280k Oneworld awards in Business, giving you lounge access anyway, negating the need for Qantas Club for that particular trip.

Thanks folks. We only fly business so Qantas club membership is not an issue. The rear end of an aircraft is aptly named. I am 4000 points away from LTG and the better half is 5500 points away. So a lot of paid flights to reach that goal. My biggest concern is the eroding of the value of QFF points. MASA is the most attractive but the times I have inquired the CSA has said none available. How do you determine what routes have MASA available? Brief research shows not many Classic awards on international routes. Is it harder to get an MASA on a lower status. We fly ONEWORLD regularly but only Qantas domestically. Qantas schedules or route paths do not go where we need to go. Qantas cost is also a bit extortionate. How is a RTW ticket booked with points? We also have a bucketload of IHG hotel points and Hertz rental points.

Qantas Oneworld awards in economy. You almost have enough QFF points for 3 awards each.

RTW J award for 280k each. Can't go wrong! I don't recommend redeeming for economy awards.

Another vote for RTW in J for 280,000 points

Surely, best value for the points

Better than upgrades

Firstly what would you like to achieve? Secondly while you are still platnium you can ask to have some seats open up. This is a perk of being WP.

An around the world J award has to be booked by telephone. You will need to be flexible and patient with the operator. You must use other Oneworld airlines as well as Qantas.

Look forward at least 6 months. Qantas will probably be the hardest to get availibility.

If you have a need/want to travel and you can do it via classic award - just book it.

Getting J or F seats is not that difficult on CX (J-HKG) or BA (F/J-SIN) and then you can burn from there.
