yeah but how many points required from Discount Y to J? Should be 40k for SYD to HKG and SYD to SIN, yet they are asking for 50K

Only for domestic, for International they should be the same as published which have not changed.

Oh, I thought it was for both. I only ever upgrade from J->F so I confess I didn't pay that much attention :)

The upgrade offer for my MEL-SIN in Jan 2015 was for 50,000 points when the usual discount economy rate is 40,000 points. So this offer at least is a 25% increase.

And did you ring QFF to ask why the offer is higher than published, FWIW its a hangover from the domestic increase.

No. But the email said 50,000 points (up 25%) and when you actually request the upgrade it takes 50,000 points. And no-one has posted that "regular" international upgrades have gone up.

It's an outside the normal rules upgrade offer - they can charge outside the normal rules rates.

They can't change the rates if it links to the table like the OPs, I would have called! Cest la vie.

Just checked again - and still 50,000 needed. If this is an error, Qantas has had weeks to fix it!

I have no need, all my QF travel is in J with no upgrade possible !

Ok, so it's just a guess. I might call when back in Australia. But the offer for me was made 3 weeks ago and is still the same.

No guess, just common sense, they cannot charge you more than the table they link to in the case of the OP!

I have the same link. The link is to the usual upgrade info that also says my booking class is not upgradable. But of course the email itself overrides that limitation. So the email could well override the points needed too. And the email itself has it clearly stated in a graphic - 50,000 points needed (you can't see that part in the OP's post).

A lot of faulty emails might have gone out if the upgrade amount is wrong.

The link takes you to the general info which includes the tables, which cannot be overridden as they form the terms and conditions of the program! Hence why I would have called rather than complaining without investigating with the source why the amount was so high!

And the same T&C's state the fare class is not upgradable!

Complaining? I just thought it was OK ( but cheeky) for QF to charge more considering that they don't have to offer the upgrade at all.

Perhaps someone who is actually in Australia could call them?

I contacted Qantas on Facebook and below is the reply. The higher points rates are correct. :(

So much for the T&C's that has been quoted above!

Well done for touching base and asking, interesting development, they really need a # or similar saying they have the right to have limited promotions that vary whats published in terms of rules and redemption values! As it stands I would suggest it borders on the deceptive and misleading provisions of consumer law, especially if it refers back to the general rules page!

SWMBO and I have different offers, but the higher than normal points costs are noted.

FWIW, the only bookings with flights I have that I can use them on are day flights to Asia.

I would not pay to upgrade those flights even on the normal rates.
