According to Pointhacks (American Express tweak earn rates on the Qantas American Express range - good for some cardholders, not so much for others - Point Hacks)

- Ultimate to be 1.5pp$
- Premium to be 1.25pp$
- Discovery to be 1pp$
- Bonus categories other than Qantas (1 bonus pp$) wiped
- Changes to take place 1 June

Interestingly some attempts to individually verify this (which I couldn't) dug up an AusBT article from 2013 when Amex moved the premium to have a supermarket bonus: https://www.ausbt.com.au/american-express-tweaks-qantas-virgin-australia-credit-card-rates

I have not received the letter confirming this yet myself. A bit upsetting but every gravy train comes to an end. Time to threaten cancellation, get bonus points, and then cancel, it seems.

Edit: Mods, could you please change title to "....Discovery, Premium, Ultimate cards" ?

I wonder if there will be changes to the Platinum charge and Reserve cards too?

I'm hoping not but am assuming it's in the works. There was a thread on AFF some months ago reporting Amex had surveyed some members about changes to Ascent points structure. Might also bring the Explorer advantages on Ascent to an end.

still get 1.5 points with a westpac Amex (black), kind of wonder the point of using amex' own cards - except for the sign-on bonus I guess.

It'll be the go-to cards if and when the big 4 banks kill off the bank-issued Amex cards as there won't be much incentive for them to issue them anymore with the RBA changes.
