Gold target?

Hi,

I'm doing a plat challenge and will hit that next week. I really was only wanting gold. So during the plat yr will my target for gold the following yr be 700 or 600? Do I need to defer accumulating sc until just before the plat yr expires so gold kicks in for the following year? (Ie no point getting gold during plat yr. might hit it anyway, not sure).

Im going to divert my flying back to NZ after plat and only use QF internally or VA if tight scheduling with NZ and I don't know how much flying I'll be doing but I'd at least like to make sure I'm aiming for the right target. I don't think I'm going to aim to keep plat but if I get near it during the course of the yr then will think about it.

I live in NZ.

Qantas have a platinum challenge?

That aside; if you get platinum, and fail to requalify next year you will have a "soft landing" to gold no matter how many SCs you get.

They called it a platinum status accelerator offer but it's the same thing.

So I really don't need to worry about targets until nearing the end of the gold yr? Like 2 yrs away? Cool!:D
I was thinking I might drop straight back to zilch given I wouldn't have flown the 1400 sc in the yr. I'm not 100% sure but I think I read that if you had a status match eg gold and didn't re qualify eg 600 that you would have no soft landing. I know that's a different situation but thought it might be similar to this.

You will "only" need 1200 SC's to requalify for WP. If you get close enough QF may comp you the platinum status anyway thereby meaning you will have nearly 3 years of elite. Sounds like you fly enough anyway not to have to worry about that.

Is the Platinum Accelerator a Kiwi thing?

No, what opusman has posted looks like it.

Just wondering if anyone has some advice... I diverted some of the TT flying to hit their target in 3 wks, called and asked a lady on the FF number saying my status was still silver despite the status credits hitting the account, she said would look into it, a week later nothing. Called again and now told I won't have platinum until the end of the 90 day period?? I'll at least be gold by then! I guess there's not too much difference between gold and plat but a deal is a deal.

The email I received the offer from is a no reply address. I'm not really sure who else to approach to ask if 90 days really is the assessment date and rollover to plat. I did tell the guy on the phone when we initially discussed it I would hit it early, I can't recall exact words but I'm pretty sure I was going to be entitled to it early.

I'm just wondering if there's other numbers I can call to ask about my situation? I'm in a little bit of disbelief.

I'm considering diverting some of my flying if it really is another 2 month wait.

You'd need to look at the specific T&C of the offer you received. It's quite common for QFF offers to have a "please allow X weeks after the promotion period" clause in them. If you really don't want to wait try sending an email to [email protected] with the full details.

I'm not sure if anyone else on here has ever received one of these "accelerator" offers so I doubt anyone has specific advice.

I would love to know more about this "accelerator" offer - had not previously known that this existed!

Regarding your questions, have you tried sending a PM to Red Roo?

I bet QFF run a sweep at the end of the promo period to update everyone at once and that's the way it would work.

Apologies for the whinging. Maybe the first lady I spoke to a week ago came through. When I logged in to check it is showing platinum now (although funnily enough the app has downgraded me to bronze).

I was was debating whether the platinum priority phone service would be of use as sometimes they're a bit more knowledgeable than the agents answering the general passenger lines (that's been my air nz experience at least), but I only had the general number. I'd had a brain fart and forgot about the email address although was after a quicker response as I need to book a couple more flights.

Sounds like a good result.

Considering that you did not have to earn 1400 SC to get to Platinum, your three year average which is used to provide the soft landing to SG may not be high enough. So you may drop back to PS after the year is up.

Basically I made a series of dumb decisions eg not applying for the gold status match earlier in the year being one of them. I later asked QF for a status match, they called asking a bunch of questions around my flying patterns then got back to me later declining the match but gave me the offer (fly 400 sc in 3 months - basically a quarter of the requirements with pre existing sc earned excluded from the challenge but count towards overall sc levels). I had no idea it existed. A good move on their part I suppose trying to make you strive for something more than what you were after. In the meantime they collect $$ from you. I was flying QFs competitors NZ/VA (although not flying VA smartly at all I've realised). I needed to divert some flying from NZ as I don't want to max out on the SP rollover and have further SP going nowhere. QF gives you one world access which will be handy for some flying next yr as we've used EK in the past.

Its not an advertised or promo offer. I think they take people on a case by case basis. I had maybe 3 flights under my belt and had booked a return trip with them so had made some commitment to flying them I guess. Enough for them to take a chance.

Is that the case? My understanding was the three year average is used to decide whether to offer a complimentary retain at the same level. I thought the soft landing was a given no matter what.

Just on the phone number, I don't believe there is anything special about the platinum number. You're still asked to enter your QFF number when calling. my view is that the call is handled based on the number entered.

Happy to be corrected, but in the P1 thread that is used as the explanation for the drop to WP, and not lower.
