There will be a long and frantic evening ahead for staff at Sydney airport, the announcements currently advising the airport is closed due to a thunderstorm that has rolled in with long delays and already a number of cancellations from Qantas. All I can say is I had better get back to Adelaide, I have been waiting 4 months for my favourite Arya Indian curry!

Flightaware is reporting the average delay is currently 48 minutes. I can see 549 out of BNE has been cancelled, really hoping 551 gets away at a reasonable time.

Yes, the lightning eased off so not as bad as it was looking an hour ago. My QF783 to Adelaide is about an hour and a quarter late but there were a few with 2 hours and 5 or 6 cancellations.

Which way are you heading John? I don't see a post from you in the FEB thread...

I'm out at West Hoxton and have been treated to quite a number of AC this arvo. Earlier while I was in the pool (in the rain) an A380 came over reasonably low in a climb - pretty cool seeing it cutting the clouds up!

 I am in OOL on my way to SYD. I hope.

I forgot to post February flights as I still have some flights to book on MH and was waiting until today.

You couldn't write it.

Here I am waiting for QF783 to Adelaide for a weekend with friends, as I was back on the 1st Feb. Who would have thought that my John K esque curse would strike for a second time? Airport currently closed due to a storm and lightning warning! Unbelievable!!

Don't they know I will get my Arya curry tonight no matter what!!

I've been watching some really cool cloud formations and lightning from my office window this afternoon and been thinking "I am so glad I'm not flying tonight".

Good luck!

The airport closure can be seen by all the flashing amber lights mounted across the airport buildings starting, this is to indicate to the ground staff the apron is no longer safe.

Don't worry I am here at OOL and have noticed the delay as well. ;)

Hope all the travelling folk reach their destinations in a timely & safe manner tonight :D
