I was looking at this page on behalf of a friend who is flying Business to LAX on QF then AA from LAX on a connecting flight in economy.

They have no status - I told them they would have lounge access at the T4 Admirals club for a shower and freshen up.

However, Qantas.com indicates no: Lounge Locations | North America | Los Angeles International Airport Terminal 4 | Iternational Business

[TH="colspan: 2, align: left"]Eligible Class of Travel[/TH]

[TH]International Business[/TH]
Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas flight.
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.

This information on Qantas.com however contradicts oneworld: Lounge access - oneworld

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class customers

...
Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul* and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa). (* a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours)
...

The following exception applies:

First and Business Class customers who do not hold Emerald or Sapphire tier status are not eligible to access American Airlines lounges when travelling on solely domestic flights within the U.S. or between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico [except Mexico City], the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean) other than the exception listed below:
Customers travelling in First or Business class on U.S. transcontinental flights between JFK-LAX, JFK-SFO and MIA-LAX (and vice-versa) are eligible for lounge access.
Do any have thoughts and/or experiences with this - the travel is not until December.

Would not be the first time the QF website contained wrong or misleading information :)

My guess is that your friend would have access because the Admiral Club lounge rules for Oneworld Premium international passengers would apply (https://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInformation/airportAmenities/AdmiralsLocations.jsp#oneworld-int-prem)

  • Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
    • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when traveling between an international long haul* and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa). (* a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours)
    • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
    • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

I don't think info on QF website is relevant in that case.

I think that is the situation - they were concerned about the Qantas page. The oneworld page did not mollify them but the AA page has.

I sure the AAngels at T4 will know the drill.

Perhaps it's just QF centric.

Maybe QF16? - on that one in April ....

My bad...I thought all QF flights were leaving from TBIT.
I'm actually on QF16 in January. I'm sure I would have just tried to board the bus for TBIT from T4 without even looking at my boarding pass...

That is my thinking!

As it's an AA lounge Id be more worried about AA/One World rules than what a QF page states :)

But wouldn't Serfty's friend (who has no status) be caught out by the Oneworld's exception

The following exception applies:

Serfty's friend is accessing the lounge based on rules for connecting passengers arriving on an international OW J flight and connecting to an AA flight
