It appears something has been done to the Qantas booking engine such that I no longer appear to be able to book the NAN status run for travel all on the same day using the routing oft quoted by others.

I have been trying to book it for travel on 3 September this year and I was able to get it to work during a dummy run last week.

Maybe tied in with what has gone on with the JASAs? :(

The booking engine has been "enhanced" to not show certain routings.

However, the fare still allows booking through the old routing, you may need to call or use another online booking site (Multi-city may work).

It was working last Friday, but noticed the change over the weekend.

Worked for me when I booked it on Sunday for oct/nov (although we're doing the outbound direct Bne-nan).

Try multi city grid (not map), Bne-Mel, Mel-nan (choose the Mel-syd-nan option then). And vice versa for return.

Props to samh004 who pointed this out to me.

Unfortunately multi-city no longer works as this is what I see:

My apologies for the lack of detail on screen, was taking the screen shot on a netbook.

man i'm happy to have booked it 2 weeks ago... i can't get it to work again... QF strikes again...

Edit: you can do it

Multi city
BNE to Mel on one day
Mel to Syd and Syd to Nan on another day

I'm not sure about the routing "oft quoted", but the run is still available for a standard BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN one way route from BNE all booked as a standard one way fare. I just tested it then for the date you had and it looks good.

I though the process was then to try and change the dates of the earlier legs to dates which suited you (or maybe I misunderstood the process, when I flew it in Jan I did it all in a day as originally booked but love the idea of avoiding the extra flights on the Fiji trip and basically getting a "free" business class flight from BNE to MEL and then MEL to SYD)... but maybe I've missed something (I've never dabbled in the multicity booking to try the NAN run, thought everyone did it as a one way regular booking).

I perhaps should have been clearer in my original post.

I want to travel BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN all in one day. I was able to select the following flights last week all for travel on 3 September 2011:

QF601 BNE-MEL 05:00
QF418 MEL-SYD 09:00
QF391 SYD-NAN 13:55

I guess what I will have to do now is book the first sector for 3 September, the other two for 4 September then call Qantas and have it changed.

It'll depend on availability, the same day was available when I tried that routing on 29th October, all same day. Perhaps there's just no fare class availability?

As best I can see on a quick look there is no QF601 on the 3rd. The first flight appears to be QF605.

That may be part of your problem.

Hi Guys,

I have been trying this one out for myself; departure 28 May, returning 30 May. Couldn't get it to work on the QF website, but it would work at www.ifly.net.au
This was with my search criteria stating BNE-MEL & MEL-NAN then NAN-MEL & MEL-BNE as Sam004 has said. Result was BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN $793, and NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE, $564 all in J.
Important to note the to and the from are done as one way bookings and not a return booking.

I’m getting mentioned a lot, but though I may have pointed out a few things here and there, I think all credit goes to markis10 :p

Reading later posts it appears the run is still available, just not one the day the OP wants. Phew!

It's possibly gone because I booked two seats in I class for MEL-SYD-NAN on September 3rd about two days ago...sorry if they're the seats you could see previously!

I feel like such a fool for not running a few other dates.

Thank you to all for their quick responses.

I was alarmed when I saw the title "The NAN run gone?", assuming the worst. All good, however :)

Can someone please confirm for me....I live in Melbourne, so if I get the Bne-Mel-Syd-Nan rtn flights, can I change the dates of just the Bne-Mel and Mel-Bne legs to use on a completely different date? Or do the fare rules somehow prevent this?

The fare rules allow for one stopover (each direction), so this should be possible. You should be able to book the flights with the dates you want, but you wouldn't be able to change online to different dates. A call to QF would probably be required.

If I understand what you are asking all the flights booked need to be taken in sequence.

You can't book BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN for the 3rd June and then change the BNE-MEL flight to be on 3rd December. But there is nothing wrong with booking BNE-MEL on 3rd June and then MEL-SYD-NAN on 3rd December.

I havent tried this but does anyone know if the same applies to MEL-BNE-SYD-NAN?
And am I correct in assuming that the NAN run has dropped back to $1350 from the $1600+ it was a few months/weeks ago?

MEL-NAN routing rules allow:
1. MEL-NAN
2. MEL-SYD-NAN

Book from BNE. Book return separate. Might of been availability issue pushing it to the higher value. Base fare is $624 in D and $834 in C for BNE-NAN, so that would be the price difference I'm guessing. It is similar difference (but overall more) from MEL-NAN.

$793 according to this:
