Re: What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

Given that there is no blocked seat for me (mere WP), I guess the CL/P1 would have the same access as I.

One could be bumped in the lounge to accommodate a CL - this has happen to me. Of course I'm assuming John O'neil is/was CL......I was told the seat was faulty.

Ouch !

All I could muster in response to that.

When I approached the SYD Flounge desk and they took my 3K (issued in BNE a few hours earlier) and gave me 1K I accepted the seat was dodgy.....bit of a surprise once on board seeing JO sitting in 3K like a big fat juicy chipollata about to burst it's skin.......still 1K was ok.

Now to me that is wrong as it was an out and out lie and they should not be allowed to get away with it. I understand that no seat allocation is ever gauranteed however should they be allowed to Lie to a passenger????? I think Not

RED ROO what are your comments on this. Is it QF practice to allow and or encourage staff to lie to passengers?

bossreggie (haven't seen him around here in ages) once told us of a time he bought a last minute F ticket at the airport.. suddenly the staff called the F lounge to page said 1A pax to come to the desk to be issued a new BP, giving him 1A.. and they only told him after the fact.

And that is perfectly fine as long as no one was lied to in the process

Regrettably, there are a number of operational factors that can, and do, impact the seating of our customers on our flights. I’ll happily investigate the situation further if amaroo would like to directly reach out to me with some details of this flight and the date of travel.

Cheers,
Red Roo

Aw-Shucks, thanks for asking:cool: But I wasn't that troubled by it all.....

I look at it this way....

I wasn't bumped from first
For all I know- the seat may still have been faulty
I'm assuming John is a CL and accept he's higher up the totem pole
If I was asked - I would have said, yes! As it looked like he was travelling with the wife/partner.

Sure I "maybe" got spun a line at the desk....."maybe" not. But assuming the seat was in perfect working order - what are they going to say to you. Sorry, we're moving you because this other person is more important.....I'd rather take a white lie over pure "status" honesty.

Red Roo there is something that you can look/sort out for me.....how about giving the magic nod for the 4x J > F upgrades I've got in for QF11 later this year - happy to PM you those details;):D

Hi Red Roo,

Would the CL / VIP status be an 'operational factor' that may change the pre-allocated seat choice of others ?

Love to hear a confirmation that Delta Goodrem can dislodge someone in 1A, for example.

I not red roo, but of course it happens.

This member was given CL status based on their own spend.

It did not happen just the one - it happened most of the time.

When travelling he's generally assigned 1A, no matter how long before the flight (a couple of hours or days on booking) nor if any one else may have preallocated that seat.

Assuming (in fact, accepting) that VIP (CL) can dislodge lesser mortals, then what are the dislodgement-proof seats then ?

5J would be the best bet IMO

Doubt if Mel B or the like would be allocated 5J.

Re: What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

I wonder if a CL could bump another CL??

Re: What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

Maybe a CLP1 could bump a CL? But I reckon it would depend on the spend that either one is responsible for.
PCV's at 10 paces ... :p

Re: What the best seat(s) to choose in First class on A380?

if a CL member always gets seat 1A, even booking at last minute... they must be aware that in some cases they are displacing pax already assigned to that seat.

unless there is a compelling reason (disability or security requirements) it would be bad manners and bad etiquette for that CL to not to insist on taking any available seat and to cause minimal disruption where possible.

being willing to take a seat from someone else is just rude.

but then money never could buy class.

I would say most don't even think about it.

The only one I can possibly think of is change of aircraft and seating has to be redone.

The one I hate is when I lose my seat and staff lie or perhaps realising what one staff member has done try to cover for them.

"Sorry Mr CL but that seat is already allocated. Would you like another?" Anything other answer means as a company Qantas has no respect for its customers.

having a bit of a think I came up up with a few extra 'operational' reasons...

  • bassinet required (may or may not be an operational requirement)
  • seating children with their parents
  • faulty seat
  • disabled passenger
  • elderly passenger with special requirements
  • air marshall
  • security / privacy (and I mean VIP not CIP)

but I don't think commercial factors (pandering to a $$ passenger) = operational factors?
