Gold
Hi,

Thanks to everyone who contributes so much useful information here.

I'm currently a Qantas Silver FF member and only 20 SC from Gold. I have trip in 2 weeks Melb to Delhi and then return 1 week later Mumbai to Melbourne (via Hong Kong). I want to put an upgrade request in from Hong Kong to Melbourne (qantas metal QF30). I understand the earlier you put in the request, the better, but I also understand that higher status is also better. I've put i an upgrade request on 6 previous occasions as Silver and been successful on 3. Therefore, would I be better off putting in a request 3 weeks in advance with Silver Status, or 5 days out with Gold Status? If I apply while silver but my status changes in the interim, is that known or is it the status as at the time of applying?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Upgrades are now purely based on status level, not time they are put into the system, I would wait.

If I booked as a SG SYD/HNL in Y as an ASA and wife booked hers same as a SS wonder what would happen re upgrade to J? would being gold override her silver status? (reason is she has already transferred points to me and can only do this once PA, but I cant transfer enough to her for both of us).

Qantas documentation indicates it's the status of the passenger¹ that determines that part of the pecking order.

Based on that, if you are on the same PNR it should relate to SG status.

This may be moot if your YASA's are booked into X class as points upgrades are not normally available for such.

¹ ... and presumably with that, the highest status of a passenger on the PNR for more than one PAX.

Maybe me up pointed end and the good woman with the rest:D

Yeah I see they say on International flights: Flight Upgrade Awards "are not eligible on all Red e-Deal fares" between Australia and North America.

Do they mean some? or not any?.

Red e deal means a number of different fare buckets under that name, however its the fare bucket that counts, not its category!

So before booking the Int. Red E Deal where do i find the fare bucket?

Also, check the fare rules before booking.

Some very few N/X/O/Q/E class bookings can be upgradeable - this will be indicated within those fare rules under the "Qantas Frequent Flyer" section. If they are indicated as being upgradeable, take a screen print/dump before booking.

Tried to look up the code as suggested didn't show it all, I'm guessing no upgrade

If it can't be upgraded do they ever deviate from this at checkin?, Im mean no one in there right mind would pay the outrageous J fare (about $6K or 700K points SYD/HNL/SYD flying on these old birds with no beds, so my recollection flying one of these sectors on Q in the past was empty J seats all went to upgrades.

flights in Y as red E is as follows:
