According to AusBT it seems Qantas will launch their Platinum One tier this week.

Anyone holding their breath?

Fairly obvious there will be more knowledge of P1 this week...

Yup. Holding breath for the majestic and magnificent changes that the flying white rat will bestow to our higher tier WP1 brothers. However this is the first time that I have seen it stated that the whole WP1 canvas will be rolled out for public view.

All the touchy, feely and hand holding sounds more like AA Concierge Key or Ryan Bingham's 10 million mile card. The report from the "AFF16" should be interesting. Wonder if they will be required to sign NDA's (like the AFF5 were required to do before their VA free lunch) if their lunch is before the official Qantas WP1 announcement?

does the AA concierge key really exist in real life?

I'm putting down 10/1 odds on that Flynn and his ragtag band of recyclers have broken a press embargo. I'll also take 3/1 odds that the story doesn't hold.

Nobody else is carrying the story, and if there wasn't an embargo then News Corp. and the others would be over this like flies to manure. No doubt News would include a union angle of how their frequent flyers are getting pampered by the company (yeah, because they're the ones that pay your pages Purvanis et al).

Anyhow, I digress.

Until I see this published elsewhere, or I hear about it from Simon Hickey's mouth this Wednesday - I'm calling BS and speculation.

No - the lunch is the announcement and we have been given permission to blog DURING the launch.

I seriously doubt there was an embargoed Press release, there is no information of any substance. It's only assuming something will be announced this week, probably based on a certain thread here.

If AusBT is to be belived, there is a press briefing this week. I'm guessing that is on Thursday!

I expect the press to be at the launch like I think they were for the initial announcement of WP1 (though I think they were actually there for the "restructuring" announcements).

I presume there will be a press briefing on Friday to coincide with the launch lunch.

Why Friday? I would expect that the launch will occur before the lunch (being on Thursday)?

Hmm. Time will tell if I'm right or not.

---- edit. Yeah it will be thu. For some reason thought the lunch was on Friday.... press will be at the lunch, along with some p1s to officially award status to.

With the AUD reaching parity with the USD again, and if WP1 is any good I'll be booking a whole series of YUPP fares come Day 1 of my membership year ;) [I'm thinking $5K outlay would be enough for two years of WP1, then 12 months of WP, SG and so on].

WP1 is said to require substantial QF travel so those YUPPs will only help you get to WP...

While I know it will require qf travel, I don't believe this was mentioned when the hoopla for p1 was announced.

I am sure I read the phrase "with a significant proportion of those SCs being earned on Qantas flights" somewhere around the announcement.

As an afterthought. Initial qualification criteria only mentioned sc required.

RR confirmed there will be a minimum QF SC earn, but the amount has not been stated.
