Re: A380 Aerial shots

I love how the A380 is stable enough to fly at low speed without using much flaps.
Its those massive engines !

I would think it has more to do with the lift capabilities on the wings rather than the engines.

After all engines create thrust, not lift in that configuration.

Re: A380 Aerial shots

Very cool.
Nice to see the top side of the A380 fat boy. I usually get a daily viewing of the Qantas and Emirates underbelly and mostly with the undercarrage up but not always:).

Yes, fat boy it is. They don't look to streamlined from the front that's for sure.

Low speed - he had a ground speed of around 500kmh for the pass at 1000ft, and the PC9s are not exactly slow, would not mind one when the RAAF get sick of them.

And I was wondering what the light plane buzzing around the fly over was doing...

Mr!

I am sure the A380 pilot enjoyed his 45 minutes holding over Port Philip!

I'm told the speed was 210 kias.

It is a very high lift wing, and at light weight (which this was) there really isn't all that much weight for each square foot of wing to carry. It has nothing to do with thrust.

I’m sure John Travolta wished he was doing the flying, instead of the waving (of the chequered flag).

I believe that during the broadcast the commentators said that JT has actually flown the A380.

Not sure if its fact or fiction.

They said he was the only non-QF pilot to have flown a QF A380, which seems like it would be a wet dream to any pilot into jets.

I’m guessing he must have helped with delivery of an A380, as I can’t imagine he’d have got away with it on a commercial flight, though wouldn’t that be great to hear over the intercom as you sit down… :)

Since JT is a Qantas ambassador I recall he flew one of the initial Qantas planes prior to delivery as part of the promo for their introduction

He announced that he had flown it at the Paris arishow, from memory it was while it was at BNE.

Travolta becomes first non-test pilot to fly Airbus A380 super jumbo

Haha at least 4 people corrected me .:)
From the tv it looked quite slow- but thats tv.

Out of interest has anyone here spoken to anyone who flies the A380. I wonder how they would handle ?

The last person to correct you in in fact a current QF A380 captain , and a most welcome contributor I suspect !

Know where you are coming from, I saw it at the SIN air show and have to agree it does look slow, big aircraft can be deceiving.
