Qantas will remove its code from a range of Jetstar-operated domestic flights with immediate effect in a bid to “increase transparency” in the booking process.
The airline will take its code off Jetstar services between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
A statement said the move is to enable customers "to clearly identify whether they will be travelling on Qantas or a Jetstar-operated service".

Not a terrible idea, as they are maintaining their code on other (non-QF) routes, which means that it's still possible to book these on RTW fares.

I was hoping they would remove JQ options altogether from the Qantas.com booking engine.. ;)

perhaps also part of efforts to remove expense shifting between JQ and QF also?

Very good idea Qantas and about time, a few weeks ago someone asked me what to expect on a Qantas flight to Perth and I asked what time was it leaving, late and I thought no that is a Jetstar flight masquerading as a Qantas flight, so no food and you better feed them before you head to the airport.

I think a lot of overseas customers would be unhappy to find that you were put on a Jetstar flight.

A friend was complaining to me just yesterday that she'd booked a QF flight but ended up on Jetstar. I explained how to look out for the different logos and she was very impressed. Sounds like removing the codeshares might be a good idea...

You'll still need to keep an eye on the logos. Th jq version of the flights will still be there.

Next we will have people complaining that they booked a QF flight, and got stuck in EK's squeezy 777 economy!

Quite frankly I don't think the removal of QF codeshares on certain flights will make too much difference at all because it wrongly assumes that all passengers who think they are booking Qantas but ending up on Jetstar are booking QF codeshare flights operated by JQ metal.

A small percentage of passengers perhaps, however a large majority of people who end up on JQ flights when they think they've booked QF have in fact booked a flight with a JQ prefix ie not a QF codeshare flight operated by JQ.

When told they're on a JQ flight a typical response is "but it's a Qantas itinerary" or "but I booked it on the Qantas website".

For a booking to be completed on the QF website there must be at least one QF marketed flight segment on the pnr so if a pax is solely travelling on JQ flights they will be redirected to the JQ website for completion of the booking. This still does not stop people turning up to QF checkin clutching a JQ itinerary from a booking made on the JQ website thinking that they still checkin with QF because "you guys are the same thing aren't you"?

The Airpass product allows for a complete domestic itin with QF Codeshares to be booked on the Qantas website, I recently had a Canadian vendor who did so and was a little shocked on his first domestic flight.

It's not just airpass products but any QF marketed flight (ie sold as QF but operated by JQ metal in this instance) eg NTL/BNE/NTL. QF 'metal' is not a factor when it comes to being able to make a booking on the QF website.

The point I was trying to make with regard to pax "solely travelling on JQ flights" was that if they were doing an availability on the QF website & chose a JQ flight ie their flight was sold as JQxx_ SYD/CNS, that the pax would be redirected to the JQ website to do the booking.

If, however they booked QF926 SYD/CNS & JQ683 CNS/SYD & thereby were able to complete the booking on the QF website, just because the return sector is booked as JQ683 doesn't mean people will automatically know they're flying Jetstar.

Passengers have assumed and will continue to assume that if they make a booking on the QF website that they will be flying on a Qantas aircraft with Qantas crew.
