Have just randomly noticed that there is no scheduled QF11/QF12 on a few days in the first half of 2013.

Tues 19th Feb
Wed 13th Mar
Wed 20th Mar
Tues 14th May

As a result QF107/QF108 will now be an A380 . Can anyone throw some insight as to why only 1 service to/from LAX on these days ?

Maybe loads were light and they have scheduled an opportunity to get some TLC into a frame or three.

Previous cancellations like this have seen the plane used for charters and given the very random dates maybe it is the case again? And the swap of QF107/QF108 to an A380 thus freeing up a 747 is also consistent with previous charters.

They aren't peak days - and they probably think they will lose money if they operate both services so cancelling them would probably save money (and give an opportunity for some maintence).

It is nothing new, they have been doing this for a while. There was also a period when these flights were being operated by 747's on certain, seemingly random (to us but certainly not to Qantas) days.

As to why as others have said clearly Qantas doesn't expect to be able to sell two flights on those days. It is amazing what a bit of competition can do on what was once a very lucrative route for Qantas.

It is pretty simple - they obviously think they will lose money (particularly when they have 3 other flights to the states) so if they can't afford to lose that sort of money.
