Anyone ever had to change a date or even refund a JASA fare?
If so, was it easy to do or painful? Money and points credited straight back to you if you cancelled?

Found some seats for a flight I need to do to CBR however a meeting I have might be postponed one week.

You need to do it by phone as if you do it online it converts to a rather poor $$ amount.

It is not (normally) an issue getting the points refunded. The only problem I've ever had was when the CS person did not know the fare rules. From experience I have found it often easier to simply cancel and rebook that to change a fare. The points return almost immediately.

Very definitely need to do it by phone. YMMV depending on the agent you get, but I have done both (at the same time!) with very little hassle.

Had 2 x JASA booked for 2 PAX (2 one way PNRs). Needed to cancel one passenger, and change return date for the one still flying (I had checked that the correct fare - classic U award - was available for the flight I wanted to change to). This required the PNR to be split, to allow one passenger to be cancelled.

The agent was excellent (but commented "this is a bit more complicated than a commerical fare). After being put on hold a couple of times whilst everything was sorted, it was all done.

Called around 8am. The booking was done with points and CC payment. The points were back in the account early afternoon, and the money (exact amount paid, including all the fees) went back to the Amex card that night. Total cost of the change and the refund was nil.

Couldn't have asked for better outcome, and no hassle - just the time for the change to get made. As a PS, I was not calling the premium desk, but suspect I got someone with that level of knowledge.

My experience wasn't so smooth. I already knew to cancel by phone due to the woeful conversion to a dollar amount online.

But it took 6 phone calls and 4 months for the points to be credit back (it was points only, no dollar amount).

Everytime I called, I spoke to reservations who sai "it's cancelled and has been sent to FF to credit back" and then when transferred to FF they said "no it hasn't been cancel properly but I'll follow it up".

In the end I spoke to a supervisor and refused to get off the phone until the points we're showing in my account.

I have cancelled 4 for various reasons, all were no issues with 7 dyas being the longest time it took for the points to come back into the account.

I just needed to change a JASA. The Qantas site was offering me change options at $777, or a refund of cash at a very poor rate.
I checked and found this post, so called up. The guy offered to change the JASA for MrsDeKa and my Red e-deal with no change fee on either, after finding classic awards available for the JASA.

Very happy :D

It can be a hassle if the JASA is combined with another fare eg JASA BNE/SYD & JQ35 SYD/MEL (no particular reason :p) on a Starter fare. I read conditions thoroughly & noted that in the event of cancellation the entire fare would take on the more restrictive conditions of two fares which in the case was the starter fare.

When SO had to cancel I called up QF giving at least 24 hours notice for it to be put into a credit shell only to be told the JQ portion would be forfeited!

AFAIK if you give 24 hours notice to cancel all domestic airlines QF, JQ, DJ & TT & call that airline direct, they wiill put your fare into a credit shell so once you are ready to book again you call up & quote your pnr & they will rebook your new fare less the change fees & booking fees of course.

So it would appear in above scenario you are disadvantaged if you book a JQ flight via QF. I'm not saying that every time you book a JQ flight through QF that this will happen but in my case it was an issue.

It was a lesson for me to definitely not combine a JASA with any other more restrictive fare type. In my case I used the multi city booking tool on QF as for some reason the JASA BNE/SYD was significantly cheaper than on its own BNE/SYD.

The other reason being I wanted to get both boarding passes when I did OLCI to make the process easier in SYD so I didn't have to checkin again at SYD Intl just on the off chance there were 20 other WP friends I wanted to visit in the FLounge at the time.

To checkin locally would have meant waiting for JQ checkin to open 3 hours prior.

Next time I book a domestic JASA I will book it on its own so if I have the need to cancel the refund process is simpler ie cancel it entirely & get a full refund.

I had my first 2 JASAs recently and changed the return on each of them. As others have said, by phone is the only way.

The first I brought forward by a day.
The other I even changed the routing from PER-MEL to PER-SYD on a different date. There was no charge in either case as the rep could find an equivalent fare. Initially they thought that there was a $60 fee but, after checking, found that this only applied to YASAs and not JASAs.

Have had to change quite a few JASA's and never had any problem (knock on wood), all call centre staff just did the changes at no extra cost

+1 it's easy by phone but there has to be equivalently priced availability. I'd never comine it directly with a more restrictive fare as one of the beauties of the JASA is the fully flexible non-charge refund or change ability.

The other way around the site not being able to change them except with ridiculous $ amounts, is to just book a whole new JASA for the date you want, then call up and cancel the original one. That way if you see the JASA there, you can just book it before someone else snags it, but you still get your points back from the original one.

Be aware that the refund process can be slow and may need chasing up.
