It can be a hassle if the JASA is combined with another fare eg JASA BNE/SYD & JQ35 SYD/MEL (no particular reason
) on a Starter fare. I read conditions thoroughly & noted that in the event of cancellation the entire fare would take on the more restrictive conditions of two fares which in the case was the starter fare.
When SO had to cancel I called up QF giving at least 24 hours notice for it to be put into a credit shell only to be told the JQ portion would be forfeited!
AFAIK if you give 24 hours notice to cancel all domestic airlines QF, JQ, DJ & TT & call that airline direct, they wiill put your fare into a credit shell so once you are ready to book again you call up & quote your pnr & they will rebook your new fare less the change fees & booking fees of course.
So it would appear in above scenario you are disadvantaged if you book a JQ flight via QF. I'm not saying that every time you book a JQ flight through QF that this will happen but in my case it was an issue.
It was a lesson for me to definitely not combine a JASA with any other more restrictive fare type. In my case I used the multi city booking tool on QF as for some reason the JASA BNE/SYD was significantly cheaper than on its own BNE/SYD.
The other reason being I wanted to get both boarding passes when I did OLCI to make the process easier in SYD so I didn't have to checkin again at SYD Intl just on the off chance there were 20 other WP friends I wanted to visit in the FLounge at the time.
To checkin locally would have meant waiting for JQ checkin to open 3 hours prior.
Next time I book a domestic JASA I will book it on its own so if I have the need to cancel the refund process is simpler ie cancel it entirely & get a full refund.
