Hi

Can someone advise the SC earned flying SYD-NAN-SYD in business class return.

Also, is the $688 one-way fare in J for travel in March 2011 actually a special price or is that the standard price for business class from Syd to Nadi (Qantas codeshare flight)

I see that Qantas has specials to Nadi listed on their home page, but that's for economy fares so I'm not sure if J class is also on special and wondering if anybody can advise if $688 Syd-Nan in J each way (Air Pacific) is cheap or have Qantas offered even cheaper in the past. (Need J class for SC run)

thanks

SYD-NAN-SYD in J is 160 SC's, the fare you quote is special and unlikely to remain once VA get out of the route, as there will be no competition to keep in there, keep in mind that the same fare is also available ex Brisbane and from BNE you can route BNE_MEL_SYD_NAN for 180SCs each way.

I would recommend going all out for a SC run in J in March 2011, booking now, and watching the prices rise after Christmas, while you still have a lower-priced seat. Oh and you can "hold the seat" and pay later, just need to pay a $25 deposit per person.

Thanks Markis10 & samh004 for the info
Now I know it's a special price I will definately book the flight tonight under 'hold and pay later'

Regards

That does not lock the price in though? I do remember reading it in the T&C's

I assumed that meant they could try increase the taxes on the ticket if they wanted to screw you, but they wouldn’t increase the ticket price as a whole. Fare adjustments leaves a lot open there, but I can’t see them changing the fare from $1300 to $2600 say or higher, that just wouldn’t go over well.

If this is not the case, I might suggest my parents pay for their tickets sooner.

I've just booked this for 3 of us travelling in March 2011 - thanks to the OP for the tip off btw, good deal!

Anyway, did the hold pay later option, saw the warning about price changes and rang QF. They confirmed it does NOT lock in the price all it does is hold the seats for you. Given that the fare is fully refundable it seemed more prudent to pay on the plastic (CC fee not refundable). Only downside is coughing up now (or next month when I have to pay the CC off).

Not wanting to hijack the thread but I've booked MEL-SYD-NAN-MEL and I note that the plane on the way back is a 767 not a 747. J cabin looks much smaller also, are the J seats different on this plane?

Now to think about hotels..

Cheers

I’m sure there’ll be plenty of sales before then, but there is a TR from the InterContinental, and I’ll be staying at the Hilton over Christmas, so shall try share some photos after that trip.

Thanks for confirming what the "hold a seat" actually does, I’ll be sure to get the CC out soon.

Also, may as well fly back through NAN-SYD-MEL to get the extra SC’s :D

The 747 seating is better and very spacious compared to the 767. If it is possible, as samh004 suggests, travel back NAN-SYD-MEL.

The book now pay later gets you a discount fare in a discount J class, while there is a chance there will be a change its more likely QF will just restrict availability of the seats, they may withdraw the fare from sale as well, however you are still locked in. Keep in mind also while it is flexible to an extent, you need to have seats available in the D bucket.

Yeah I kinda figured that, thanks. Will think about it, its just the timing of the direct flight is better as it means we get an extra day really, or at least part of it.

Another question.

I'm trying to figure my SC for MEL-SYD-NAN-MEL all in D and have come up with either 220 or 200 depending on how QF measures it in miles. Does anyone know for sure?

Its interesting that I have calculated I will qualify for WP on the MEL-SYD flight on the way out. Will we be able to access flounge in SYD? Or is that pushing it?

Cheers

Its 220, and you can go into the FLounge if you have a QF flightnumber and the SCs have posted, which I find may not happen for a few hours.

You can get a realistic calculation in two ways.

Method 1:
Use this to work out distances: Great Circle Mapper

Then use this table to work out SC earn: Status Credits

Method 2:
Plug your routing into the "Oneworld Explorer Validator" part of: Mileage Monkey, tick the "[x] Ignore errors (for expert users!) box" and click [Go!].

When finished, down below you will see a table: "# of Qantas SC's earned" which has a total for the booking classes (execpt for PE).

I tried to book BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN
Multi trip Int

But Qantas shows error (plus it wont let me do 3 trips on the same day - one way)

Multi-trip BNE-MEL and then MEL-NAN (and route that portion through SYD).

I get to choose the flight from BNE to SYD then I get
Meh, its the Bank fairies saying I dont need to spend the money.

Ahh edit:
If I do it as a return the it works!

Again great fare with Air Pacific around $1200. I love their J class heaps of room great service.
