A quick TR on this recent trip aboard one of the newly refurbished birds.

Selected 24J which compared to my previous flight on a 330 appeared to have an inch or so more of footroom -an improvement although a modest one making the bulkhead more attractive now.

Had the new Y meal service with Eat On Q selected prior to departure, my selection didn't work but it didnt matter as my dish was on the menu on board (some of kind cold chicken and grain salad which was rather nice). Portion sizes have returned to normal after several years of shrinkage and the use of a plastic dish for the main menu placed straight on the tray speeds up service. I was also given dessert (big chocolate mousse, yum) and a bread roll. Ice Creams & Maltesers were offered at later intervals as well as a snack service of pulled beef sliders or hot veggie wrap prior to descent.

The seat is an improvement now comprising an ergonomic design which gives a cradling effect and a good depth of recline, seat padding and fabric were good for this 7 hour sector.

IFE also was a big leap ahead - very large screen size and they have finally gotten rid of the awful interface that made you hit each menu selection twice before slowly opening (now to get it off the 380s and 737s!). Good depth of content.

Although the seats are an improvement there was little change to the cabin aesthetic apart from new curtains and carpets - a deep clean was obviously not part of the refurb as there was several years of dust present in the lavatory fan and certain cabin fittings remain in their formal yellowed state which detracts a little but not overly so.

All in all a strong catch up move for QF in Y to be able to compete with the likes of SQ and CX hard product which they are now in the league of.

Agree with the OP.
I did the same route last weekend in Y, row 28, aisle.

Big improvement. Well done QF.

Cheers

I just got off QF82 overnight from SIN-SYD on the refurbished A330 VH-QPA in whY. I was very impressed at how much an improvement the overall product is. Love the new seats, new large Panasonic IFE system, have a very good image quality and responsive touch screens.
Before the meal was served, the crew provided their 'welcome drink' of Bickford's lemon cordial. After visiting the Qantas Singapore Lounge I would't have usually had the meal and instead attempt sleep, but the description sounded pretty good!
Last night there were 3 meal options: parmesan crumbed pork, paneer butter masala and a grilled chicken quinoa salad. I opted for the pork which was really good despite the crumbs being soggy (never expected them to be anything but....). The meal was the larger dish served on a plate and came with a hot bread roll filled with herb butter. Can definitely see how this speeds up serving time.
A couple of issues I have are that you no longer get a glass for your wine - back to the old plastic cup. Also, if someone orders spirits, the FA needs to head into the galley to fill up the cup. This is such a time waster!
Overall, very happy! Can't say the same for the tired A330 VH-QPI I flew over to BKK on....
