Wireless in TBIT OW Lounge

Was in the LAX TBIT Lounge the other night (again), and could not get wireless access from my iPhone or iPad (again), was wondering if there was some trick I didn't know. Got given the little piece of paper at lounge check in, and could connect to the one world hotspot, but beyond that nothing.

Anyone having the same experience, or as i said above, know the special trick - or is it just me?

This lounge is continually overcrowded, including the First Class section with no Wi Fi. Last time I was there in February there was no wi Fi and those around me let me know that this was the normal experience. I left my seat with a coat on it and bag next to it and found a family of four had moved in and taken my seat and the person next to me. They of course were most indignant when asked to move and started complaining about the lack of seating to me. I told them to go see the airline and not to vent their frustration on me.

A most uncomfortable experience before a long flight and I witnessed many people looking for seating. I would hate to be there if their were any major delays.

Works great in the T4 AC/FL - I hang out there before catching the bus (or walking) over to TBIT ~ 70 minutes before my ex TBIT flight.

Do you have to go through security again after doing this bus transfer?

I agree, the internet is horrible in this lounge.

Not if you use the bus. You do if you do the walk from T4 to TBIT.

Last time I did the bus there was a 25 minute wait. :shock: Not sure if this was a one off or not.

Runs every 30 mins (either :00/:30 or :05/:35 - can't recall now), so a long wait is possible.

I will accept I've only been in there twice in the previous year, but I walked in an sat straight at the bar, plenty of room.

The bus is timetabled for the Hour and every ½ hour - I have seen it leave a little early, rarely late.

However, currently the TBIT bus drop off is near gate 123.

Last time I took it was in January. Due to the construction of the West "wing" of TBIT, the shuttle is currently travelling over 2 miles as it travels West (nearly half way to the coast), then North, then East to a new (Temporary, I hope) bus facility inside the Northern end of TBIT near gate 123. From there it's a 7-10 minute walk back to the O/W lounge.

This whole process can take ½ an hour, so maybe the upper level walk is currently better.

I find it quicker to walk between Terminal 4 and TBIT - only hassle is having to re-clear security, but even that seems to be easier than the sightseeing trip of LAX, and the sometimes pretty horribly crowded holding pen where the bus leaves from.

I usually walk off the plane, walk over to the V Australia/Alaskan terminal, deposit any left over US Cash in the Bank of America ATM, walk back to TBIT, walk up to the F Desk and have them swap over my AA Boarding Passes for QF ones (sometimes there is a hassle with the AA ones on boarding), and then go through security and up to the lounge.

I am pretty sure that all up there is less walking, less time, and more convenience than catching the bus at the moment.

As per the experience of others, WiFi access in the TBIT lounges is bordering on useless. A US SIM for your phone or tablet device is the only way to get decent internet access in that lounge.

Also agree with the idea of spending as much time as possible in the T4 Admiral's Club / Flagship Lounge before heading over to TBIT. The First lounge there is hopelessly overcrowded of an evening with at least 3 flights to Australia and a couple of BA flights to London heading out every night. Last time I was there I found it more relaxing to wander down to the far outpost gates (136-146) and use my iPad or iPhone for internet access & Skype.

Don't even bother. Even the desktops they have don't have a good internet connection.
Has been this way for over a year since I started frequenting the lounge once every 3 months.
