Hi, I'd like to offer my referral link (www.amex.com.au/refer/adeleeF6LP) for the 90,000 AmEx Ascent Premium Membership Rewards points you can score when signing up for this card. While it's not as large as the points bonus previously seen, 90,000 points plus the numerous other card benefits mean that most people will still be able to extract excellent value from this card.

However, rather than just copying the AMEX promotional spiel, below I've listed out my top three uses of 90,000 AMEX points:

  • Option 1: Transfer your points 1:1 to Singapore Airlines Krisflyer and fly Sydney – Singapore – London (or Zurich) on the Singapore Airlines A380 in business class (80,750 points, plus $460 taxes), OR find cheap flights to Singapore and then fly return SIN - HKG in Suites class (36750 points each way, plus $34 taxes), to experience the absolute best that Singapore Airlines offers. Save the remaining points for something else (such as a small transfer to Starwood for a weeknight and weekend night Category 1 hotel redemption).
  • Option 2: Transfer your points 1:0.5 to SPG (starwood). This scheme is considered by many to be the most valuable out there. 45,000 points will net you up to a fortnight of accommodation at Category 1 or 2 properties (my personal favourite is the Le Meridien Angkor: http://www.lemeridienangkor.com -excellent value at Category 2)
  • Option 3: Transfer 80,000 points to Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific at a 1:1 basis). This will get you a return flight from Sydney to Hong Kong on Cathay’s excellent business class (with only around $120 in taxes). Again, save the remaining 10,000 points for a rainy day (or a small transfer to Starwood for a 2 night Category 1 hotel redemption).

I'd just like to add in my referral link to the thread, but first let me talk about my experience with this card.
I signed up for this card back in May of this year, and have just returned from 3 months overseas.

I won't talk over the same great benefits that the others mentioned, just to add the below.

Lounge Lounge Lounge. This is THE card to get if you don't have airline status / travelling on cheaper ticket.

1. Virgin Australia Lounge Access - This seems to not include a guest. Easy workaround - free supplementary card.
2. Delta USA Domestic Lounge Access - Similar to above. No problems with a +1 if you've issued them a supplementary card.
3. Priority Pass Select Membership [also possible to get 1 extra membership for supplementary cardholder]
- This is their best available package, as it comes with unlimited visits +1 guest to each priority pass holder.

We took approximately 17 flights throughout APAC/USA/Central America.
There were maybe 2 occasions where I didn't have lounge access of some description.

This was just a quick overview of the lounge privileges. Then you've got everything else...
- 90,000 AMEX MR points
- $300 platinum travel credit
- Elite status at Hilton, Shangri-La, Hertz, Avis
- Free Premium Travel Insurances

Thanks to those of you who use my referral link to apply for this card!

M@rcoPolo, Please check your account. I had used your referral link. Do you see some recent referral bonus credit to your account ?
Actually, I am an existing customer of Amex with Gold Business card but still experimented and used your referral link. However I received 90k points as friend bonus. So just wanted to check if you have received it or not.

Cheers

AMEX Plat Charge - Important info re 90000 bonus point eligibility / pro-rata refund

Hi all

Have you previously considered signing up for the AMEX platinum charge card (90,000 bonus points with referral, plus loads of other benefits such as $300 travel credit, worldwide lounge access and elite hotel status) but have concerns about the high annual fee and possibility that you won’t receive bonus points as an existing AMEX credit card holder?

I can confirm some important information:

Current AMEX credit card (not charge card) holders are guaranteed to pick up the 90,000 bonus points!

AMEX have recently changed their terms and conditions to state that Card Members who “currently hold or who have previously held any other Consumer Charge Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer”. Previously the terms and conditions read "any card product" - but note the update to charge cards only - meaning that if you haven't held a charge card in the past 18 months, you're definitely eligible for the bonus points (as confirmed with AMEX in a phone call this afternoon!).

If the $1,200 annual fee puts you off – cancel early and get a generous pro-rata refund

I've recently reported in another thread that I was able to obtain a generous pro-rata refund on this card today – the AMEX call centre was very helpful, and very happy to offer me $800 back from the original $1200 fee (I’d held it 4 months and used a small number of the benefits). The rule of thumb used by the call centre seems to be a $100 rebate per unused month - so if the idea of forking out for the steep annual fee scares you, you mainly want the card for the bonus points and don’t feel you’ll use many of the benefits, consider calling the AMEX call centre to cancel the card 3-4 months (or even earlier, once bonus points have been received and transferred to the scheme of your choice).

Ready to take the plunge? Your use of my referral link (as generated from my Platinum Edge card) would be much appreciated:

I thought that the Reserve was no longer available?

The current public offer is 100k - seems a bit strange that there would be no referral bonus? Or am I missing something?

It is a bit unusual, but AMEX does do that sometimes with the referral offers - they've had a really big year of referral offers this year so perhaps they've backed off for Christmas.

A reminder that anyone posting a referral link must follow the guidelines specified in the sticky at the start of the referral sub-forum.

Specifically:

Update 31 March 2015: Just to be 100% clear. Both the Referrer and Referee must receive the benefit which needs to be clearly defined, transparent and stated in the post. Links to "affiliate-type" sites where the Referrer receives an incentive/bonus, and there is no clear benefit to the Referee for using that link is not acceptable.

Posts that do not have the required information will be deleted.

the best in my opinion as you get the whopping 100,000 bonus
costs $1200
I get 20k you get 100k!

http://amex.com.au/refer/roslybmEea

($ 300 travel credit)
you also get the free reserve card with a free flight which will apparently be converted to travel credit after march making a $700 travel credit for the $1200 fee
you do need to apply for this card also
this also means you can register for all those amex cashbacks more than once!
I use my credit to purchase round trips within Australia and that is the best use in my opinion I have constantly checked hotels and transfers and have always found them not as good if an elite member of a hotel program where you get discounts.

and of course the bonus offered every year to stay with the card is awesome
( you do have to call though) so far 50k 44k and 36k

Great card to get for frequent travellers!!
Apply through below link by 30th Jan 17, you will received 100k points and i will get 20k points.
