    First time to South America

Day 6 Laundry stop. How mundane. Then lots of walking, finishing with a walking tour of Recoleta cemetery. Strange to see when the annual fee isn’t paid, the tombs are not maintained. Ended the evening with a large group dinner on the waterfront in San Telmo

    First time to South America

Day 5. A brisk morning and after a hearty hotel breakfast, we set of for a bike tour of Buenos Aires with Rental Bike Argentina. We had a great day, around 25km of flat riding. The ride around Boca Jnr stadium was special as they had a game today and all the supporters were out with street...

    First time to South America

Day 4 After multiple LATAM messages changing our flight times back and foward, we finally left San Pedro de Atacama for Calama airport. Driving during daylight makes you appreciate how much elevation is gained going to San Pedro. Calama airport is nice with a very open feel. We got some help...

    First time to South America

Day 3 Jorge was ready for us at 8am for the trip to the Altiplano. The advice was to dress and it was good advice. We got up to 4,800m and I think we were at an average of 3,800. There was frozen rivers, still snow on the side of the roads in places and the wind was ferocious. It does your head...

    First time to South America

Day 2 We have organised a 2 day tour with Jorge at Altiplano travel. We had a 7.30 breakfast booked with an 8.30 departure. Alarms on iPhones set, woke up and no one at the restaurant. We found a groundskeeper and it seems the local time has not gone to daylight savings. My iPhone disputes this...

    First time to South America

Part 2 It was a nice 10 min walk from T1to T2 domestic. We had a bit of a moment when we tried to get local money from a machine. The first 2 wouldn’t cooperate. By. machine 3 a sense of anxiety was emanating and service as usual. There doesn’t seem to be a LATAM lounge here, but Starbucks have...

Article: Qantas Auckland Lounge Upgrade: The End of an Era

I went for a wander through the business section and they have a barista. She made a great coffee, but has never travelled out of NZ. I felt a bit sorry for her, stuck in the back dark corner of the lounge watching people fly out.

Article: Qantas Auckland Lounge Upgrade: The End of an Era

It will be interesting to see what Emirates do with their lounge. It was big enough for 3 A380 departures from AKL-Aus. Now they are only running a flight to KUL-DXB. It looks like they will start a 380 non stop to DXB soon, but the lounge will be a huge cavernous space with just 1 flight...

Article: Qantas Auckland Lounge Upgrade: The End of an Era

I dont agree with you about the comparison with the Air New Zealand lounge. I always find this bleak and it often very busy and hard to find a seat. The outdoor area is nice, but I have only been there once that it was warm. Food and beverage comparison, the QF F lounge is much better ( the...

If you are unwell, who decides if you can fly?

In the pre covid days, I had a few flights were I was unwell with respiratory viruses. At least one of those flights, I later found out I had Influenza. Back then there were no masks, no questions, just board with tissues, panadol, Otrivine nasal spray and wrap up in a blanket. Would I be able...

Recent Experiences with QF’s new terminal transfer at SYD

Hey Poochie, If you are traveling for business, you put up with all the cough. If you are travelling for personal enjoyment, the combined efforts of govt, airports and airlines are doing their best to take the fun out of travel. We just got back from AKL-SYD-ADL-SYD-AKL trip to see friends and...

Memorable experiences going through airport security?

What a great thread. We were flying out of BKK with the 7 yr old daughter. Pre check in and the security asked us to go to a table to check carry on. There were about 6 staff and all the bags were opened at the same time. Suddenly the one opening the daughters carry on jumped back. Massive rise...

Any ideas on QF international lounges reopening schedule

Thanks I know I am not match fit. Alan Joyce told us that. But it is a bit rich for QF ask us not to contact them because all the answers are on the website. At the end of the day at the airport, I can rely on cash for a coffee and a book.

Any ideas on QF international lounges reopening schedule

The QF website lists these overseas lounges as open The Qantas International London Lounge, Los Angeles International Business Lounge (from 30 March) and Perth International Transit Lounge. And Some Qantas International First and International Business lounges are currently closed except for...

QANTAS codeshare with LATAM. Whats offered? And advice on Argentina-Chile

Thanks everyone The plan is sort of taking shape. QF had a really good business sale on dates we wanted, so we booked part of the trip. I did ring QF helpdesk to discuss points etc, but I couldnt get a clear answer and he recommended book online or would be charged the help fee. Fair enough...
