Certainly happened to me. I was able to select a window seat ( 1-2-1 config ) and was reallocated a centre seat a few months later.
I had heard that JAL policy didnt allow window selection on award seats so was surprised when it initially allowed me to do so on booking
I assume you meant EY (Etihad).
Some airlines don’t allow advance choices for certain seats on award flights.
It happened to me on JAL. Made the choice but was kicked out to another later.

On a recent flight with QR, as I was boarding at LHR, the AirTag was reporting itself as being at a residential street in Hounslow.
Fortunately the kind residents must have delivered it to the airline as it arrived with me in Doha .😄
