Thanks; hadn't noticed that thread so my apologies for the duplication!

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

I've just seen a news report that a shop in Denmark is charging 40 kroner ($10-ish) for your first bottle of hand sanitiser and they'll sell you the second for 1,000 kroner ($250-ish). Brilliant way to stop stockpiling and ensure fair access for everyone. Now all we need is for Coles, Woolies...

    The C word, R U OK?

There's a bit of confusion somewhere in the system r.e. timing as I was posting from the USA and your 2nd post wasn't available / visible to me at the time when I replied, hence I wasn't actually cherry-picking. I perhaps took the wrong approach / wrong wording to making my point, and my...

The "I am in self-isolation" thread

I flew back to Australia today and have a domestic connection in business class on a miles redemption booking. At the transfer desk, I asked to be put onto the earlier domestic flight home, so that I wasn't spending 7 hours in the Qantas Lounge prior to going into mandatory self-isolation. I...

    The C word, R U OK?

Apologies for the confusion; I'm definitely NOT doom and gloom about it all - my response was primarily answering Lawrage's question "we dont lock down entire countries every year when flu season rolls around now do we?". If he believes we should be in lockdown for coronavirus then I was just...

Enjoy the Basket Press - I've opened some 2008 recently and can highly recommend it :)

    The C word, R U OK?

I agree with the impact of coronavirus on the vulnerable, and the tragic deaths that have resulted from that but if you believe that coronavirus kills more people than influenza (in terms of absolute numbers) then it's you who is in denial at this point. The World Health Organization estimates...

Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

Thanks - would be nice to get the cash back, although obviously not good that it's serious enough for WHO to issue the warning....

Has anyone been impacted by the Coronavirus? Will travel insurance cover the costs if we wanted to cancel? Especially if the flights are with points.

Agreed - I've got a 48-hour stopover in Hong Kong coming up in mid February and spoke to my travel insurer today to clarify the situation. They advised that the tickets and insurance must BOTH have been purchased prior to any epidemic or natural disaster PLUS there must be a "Don't Travel"...

Gasp... Spend $150 at Coles for 9000 FB bonus points!

I got a 9300 pts for $220 spend at Coles, and separately 10,000 pts for 3 weeks of $45 spend per week at Liquorland. Jumped on both of them....

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

I was assured verbally by the lounge angel that compensation would be provided by VA - she tried to organise it on the spot but VA's systems apparently didn't allow it (perhaps because it was an Etihad-ticketed flight, although the ticket for the economy downgrade had (from memory) a VA flight...

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

I also stated that I booked and paid for a seat in business, and was involuntarily downgraded to economy (on a fully-flexible ticket due to VA's procedures). I find it truly bizarre that you consider that the handful of extra Velocity points earnt on the economy ticket means that, overall, I'm...

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

Sorry, but your logic is seriously bizarre - how on earth do you manage to figure that I was better off?? I paid for business class and was forced to travel in economy, with no compensation?! It doesn't matter which type of economy fare you pay, you're still sat in the same economy seat. It's...

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

I've suggested points rather than cash but, to date, Etihad haven't even had the courtesy to reply

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

Good plan; let's hope it's never required, but a good use of 5 minutes nevertheless!

Advice please - Etihad refusing compensation for involuntary downgrade

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one - involuntarily downgrading someone (even for the short leg of a longer trip) and refusing to compensate them can never be "the right outcome", otherwise where do you draw the line? It's run by the airlines and is (unsurprisingly) entirely...
