ATO warns business owner over loyalty points from cards

At the risk of sounding pedantic, I would argue that you mean tax EVASION. Tax avoidance is using legal means to minimise the tax that is payable Tax evasion is failing to pay tax that is legally due Politicians are increasingly and deliberately confusing the two.......

Possibly moving to Brisbane, spouse staying in Canberra - advice needed!

[/LIST] The "Virgin Australia Promo Codes" thread / wiki is worth a look if you don't know about it already - you can normally get a 10% discount or thereabouts, as long as you book > 21 days in advance. There are also threads / posts which discuss the benefits of purchasing flights using QF...

Possibly moving to Brisbane, spouse staying in Canberra - advice needed!

You should be eligible for the Living Away From Home Allowance ("LAFHA") - I got this when I was commuting from Adelaide to Sydney on a weekly basis and was renting an apartment in Sydney. Key points: It is (or at least was) only available for one year - it can definitely be used if you're...

    Qantas Red Planet

Did you have an option to stop the app from installing in the first place?

    Qantas Red Planet

Is there an easy way to block access to the camera if completing these surveys on a smartphone? I completed the survey about the beer-related advert campaign too, but logged into Red Planet via my laptop and used my internet security software's pop-up notification to block access to the...

    Ask The Pilot

Many thanks again for the explanation / insight!

    Ask The Pilot

Thank you for the extra information - in summary, if I've understood it correctly, it's a "whole-of-flight" calculation and the very minor fuselage-drag penalty associated with a slight and constant upwards pitch during cruise is outweighed due to savings related to greater efficiency during...

    Ask The Pilot

Sorry - have just seen this after typing my initial reply to Aviator Insight's explanation....... Is the lift created by presenting the fuselage at 2.5º to the airflow significant, relative to the lift provided by the wings, and what is the increase in drag caused by pushing the fuselage...

    Ask The Pilot

Many thanks for the rapid reply. It all seems to be driven by the wing (and its optimum AoA), which seems reasonable to a layman...... but why wouldn't you attach the wing to the fuselage such that in the cruise, the wing is at the optimum AoA (for maximised L/D ratio) while the fuselage is...

    Ask The Pilot

In the comments on AusBT's recent article on TAP's new (fully-flat) A330-900 business class, a reader notes that "the seat does not look remotely flat" [meaning in this instance that the seat is flat but is NOT horizontal / parallel to the floor of the cabin]. Someone else has replied that...

SQ Book the Cook - issued

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue Yeah - I'm getting more assertive in my old age, and just asked for the salmon instead....

SQ Book the Cook - issued

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue Fair enough :)! I could have eaten it at a push, but wouldn't have enjoyed it; my default option is "medium". That level of cooking certainly shouldn't be the default level for a Book The Cook service!

SQ Book the Cook - issued

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue I had a similar quality issue with BTC on SQ flying LHR-SIN just now (I'm sat in the lounge at Changi typing this!). I had pre-booked the fillet steak which was served basically raw. They offered to cook it "a bit more" but it still came back uncooked apart from a...

    Quotable Quotes

"Time travel? I believe there are people regularly travelling back from the future and interfering with our lives on a daily basis. The evidence is all around us. I’m talking about how every time we make an insurance claim we discover that somehow mysteriously the exact thing we’re claiming for...

    WARNING Budget Direct Annual Policy

Condolences from me too On a lighter side, and as noted by Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy): "Time travel? I believe there are people regularly travelling back from the future and interfering with our lives on a daily basis. The evidence is all around us. I’m...

    Seat allocations for no status

Only WP can select Row 3 BEFORE check-in, but they seem to become generally available at check-in...... whether they should or not (unless the flight is full) is a different question...... ;)

    Changi Voucher Swap

Would have liked to have helped as I'm flying LHR-xSIN-ADL on SQ (using miles) on Monday 27th Feb. However, it's a one-way ticket (the ADL-xDXB-LHR outbound leg is on EK) and apparently a one-way flight isn't eligible for the vouchers........

    Seat allocations for no status

Always a potential problem, I agree, but most SG's are likely to know that there is at least one Platinum Tier above them (plus CL or equivalent). If applied consistently, along with preferential Row 3 / Row 4 access for SG if the plane is full, I reckon it would work......

    Seat allocations for no status

The complication is when a non-WP partner is travelling with a WP. I've had someone in 3F on VA throw a hissy fit when my wife (as NB) was sat in 3E. I pointed out that I was WP and that I was sat in 3D. Didn't make much difference to her attitude! Luckily, I've got no problem with ignoring...
