    My guess is that they're tweaking their yield algorithm to "optimize" revenue, with the side effect of more bumping and overbooking situation. Either it's unintentionally bad side effect, or they consider this the "normal cost of doing business" and we'll see this as the new normal, going forward.

My seat selection (43A) done a couple of weeks prior (was free back then) still sticks though. Looking upthread it's quite bizarre actually...

    Business idea: check-in bot for J-seat protection. Will automatically check you in when it hits T-24 and get you single-digit sequence numbers, for the cost of 1$ per check-in. :D

    I guess they really want to save the whatever thousands dollars worth of compensation they can, brand goodwill be damned. Compensation shows up in the book, brand value doesn't. Simple and fair, really :P

    Why does everything on the Qantas website default to economy?

    It's even worse, I've seen cases where award availability is not the same between the mobile and desktop site. E.g. the mobile site shows no availability while desktop shows a few available options. Even on my phone I no longer trust their mobile cough, luckily my browser has a "request desktop...
