Best irrops/schedule changes/overbooking that have worked in your favour

Only upgrade I've had due to overbooking was on Air Canada back in 1984. Nothing in the hundreds of flights since. However, I've just had the opposite. Air Austral cancelled our return leg SEZ to RUN, assuming we were OK on a flight 3 DAYS later. I had to book via Mauritius instead. I...

    The End of Cheap Status

This might be a nuisance to some people but I personally am delighted to see it. "First" class on US domestic flights is so basic that it distorts things badly. Calling it business is much more compatible with the rest of the world. One issue was that a business class RTW ticket got...

    Duty Free Alcohol Rip off

I've been aware for some time that Duty "Free" alcohol at Australian Airports has been a rip off but it seems that other places are joining the excess profit game. I recently checked the price of 1 litre of Kahlua at Abu Dhabi airport, Brisbane Airport and my local Dan Murphy's. The Duty Paid...

    Window Shades UP or DOWN?

As well as being a nervous traveller, my wife is claustrophobic but loves travelling so puts up with flying (with a little relaxant help). However, it does mean that she hates having the blinds down on daytime flights. We always try to get a window seat for her but selecting seats is so...

AFF Flight Search Engine [Sky Scanner]

Re: AFF Flight Search Engine That is correct. I just thought this was the most suitable section of the website to post my comment. The 'Cheap Flights" link says that the search engine is provided by SkyScanner rather than it being a link to SkyScanner. Skyscanner itself does have a multi...

AFF Flight Search Engine [Sky Scanner]

It was disappointing to see that the AFF search engine doesn't appear to include a multi city option. As retirees who fly about 15-20 legs per year over about three months international travel (sometimes a single trip, more often 3 or 4), we often do "loops" of flights rather than simple...

    What's up with Emirates?

We were supposed to be on an A380 for DXB-FCO on our next trip but EK changed the plane to a 777. My wife is claustrophobic and hates long flights so we split up trips to Europe into three legs with at least one night on the ground between each. Doing that means that we'll be in 777s the whole...

Qantas FFP - Is there any point for infrequent travellers

Everyone to their own but, apart from overnight flights, I don't see much point in getting upgrades on domestic flights except, as you suggest, for an experience for inexperienced family members (if you've got any).

    AFF Flight Tracker

Is there a process to report errors in Flight Tracker? I recently used Vanilla Air, code JW, but that is reported as the code for another airline. In addition, Virgin Australia, which has been VA for many years, is shown as DJ.

Qantas FFP - Is there any point for infrequent travellers

We used to use QF regularly but a couple of bad experiences reduced our loyalty. Then, they insisted that, if you wanted to transfer points from Amex, you could only have the option of using them with Qantas. At that point, I changed my major scheme to SQ. They aren't perfect, with points...

Qantas says Jetstar doesn't levy credit card surcharges - but a 'comfort fee'

As someone else did quote the original statement from Qantas, the airline came extremely close to saying it and the only inference is that it is a convenience and comfort fee. As I understand it, the CC companies charge a percentage based fee of less than 1%. What I object to is the use by the...

    Proof.......The Yowie does exist!

As a small person who battles to keep my weight down (and succeeds), I have every sympathy for tall, well built people in Economy. However, this thread is about fat people. The large majority of fat people are like that because they eat too much of the wrong kind of food and don't exercise...

How do retirees still earn FF Points, and optimise travel?

Don't forget that 28 degrees is no longer cheap for taking money out of ATMs. You need Citibank or HSBC debit cards for that. 28 deg still good for intl purchases but you don't need to preload it for that.

How do retirees still earn FF Points, and optimise travel?

I've been reading this thread with interest and thought this post needed a reply. If you make sure that your income is clearly defined, you CAN still get a new credit card. I retired at 57 with just silver status. We maximise CC points and pay for most air travel but use points when we can. We...

My New Years Aviation Dreams & Goals

Clazman, This was one of my goals as well. My wife really dislikes very long flights so I didn't see much chance of achieving it. Then Emirates started flying the A380 DXB-BNE-AKL so my wife gave me some points to give me enough to fly BNE-AKL economy and AKL-BNE business, all on the same day...

VA transfer to SQ 1.35:1 VA

While I accept your numbers, in my experience, KF fees/charges are much higher than VA which would change the equation.

Are you ‘better’ at collecting FF points/managing your account when you have a goal?

Re: Are you ‘better’ at collecting FF points/managing your account when you have a go Apologies, that shows how rusty I am about One World. With QF and EK being so intertwined, I assumed that EK was in One World.

Are you ‘better’ at collecting FF points/managing your account when you have a goal?

Re: Are you ‘better’ at collecting FF points/managing your account when you have a go I don't go out of my way to accumulate points or make any advance plans but we (retired couple) travel and spend enough that we get a reasonable number of points and can usually find seats when we want. My...
