Well, The QF consultant could get 1 seat LAX-LIH but not 4. Exactly as you thought! I actually have my family of 4 on 1 booking (1 pax) and the other 3 on a different booking, so that would work well. I'll keep trying various airports from mainland USA to LIH, HNL, OGG and see what turns up...
