SYD-SIN, SQ212. Even more impressed that they catered so well for an 8am departure!

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Only anecdotal evidence, but on a 777 flight I took back in June there were 3 of us in the cabin drinking Krug, and based on the number of refills we all had I'm confident they had stocked multiple bottles.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I'm not saying I'd be one to ask to swap, just that I understand why people are inclined to ask. The loss in 'value' to an individual traveller moving from 1A to 3A is marginal, but the gained value for a couple moving 2A/3A to 1A/2A is significant. I imagine that's the way SQ sees it also, as...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

To be fair, the experience of the double-suite as a couple is significantly different to flying in 2 individual suites. Sitting in proximity to someone else when you're both in private cocoons is one thing, being able to open those cocoons to a bigger shared space is something else entirely...

    Qantas Platinum One experiences?

The term "VIP Host" would be far more accurate given their remit. Flying QF F doesn't get you "F Host" service - at least I've never encountered it in my dozens of F flights as either WP or LTG.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The suites do get smaller from front to back. From memory row 1 gets 4sqm, row 2 gets 3.8sqm, row 3 gets 3.2sqm. None of the suites are what you'd consider 'small' in their own right and I'm more than happy flying in any of them. As I mentioned somewhere up-thread, if flying solo I'll pick...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Fully agree - I really enjoy the SQ F lounge in Sydney. Very rarely more than 4 people in the lounge, a massive contrast to the crowds in the QF F lounge most days. Food has always been nice - truffle eggs for breakfast a few weeks ago was top notch, as was the coffee. Coupled with the 4 pax F...

    Favourite airline on-board freebie?

As an 11yr old travelling in Economy on KLM quite some time ago (my first overseas trip) the kids pack included a foam puzzle that you could build into various 3D shapes. It came in a couple of different shades of blue to denote the different difficulties, and each flight we took had a...

Points strategy on a car purchase

I have bought a few cars on credit card, the most recent one a couple of months ago was about $60K. Used a Qantas Business Amex, negotiated a price we were happy with first and then told them we'd either pay by credit card at that price and take the car there and then or we'd go shop around at...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The Private Room can be accessed as an arrivals lounge for passengers coming off a First flight, but that’s only on the same day. You’ll be eligible for the Business lounge (or regular First if you have status).

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Sorry, I can see how that’s confusing. My logic is based on being on the other side of the situation in some of my first flights in the suites. If I am flying solo I don’t want to book a seat that would prevent a couple from choosing the double suite if it’s still available. Purely a personal...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

In late June the Champagne offerings on-board included a 2015 Bollinger which was also very nice, I would recommend trying that as well as the Krug. TPR additionally had the 2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne which was also pretty fantastic. As suggested the vodka is a great accompaniment for...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I’ve flown both 777 First and 380 Suites this week. Both flights had plenty of Krug and the new Bollinger, not sure how many bottles they loaded but there was no issue for anyone drinking them and I know they opened at least a second bottle of Krug. I didn’t have the Taittinger on board but I...

    Fare/Upgrade/Status Visibility

It was unexpected for sure, I didn’t take it badly at the time, I was just impressed they had the knowledge to pull that information from whatever previous interactions I’d had with Qantas. In retrospect though, yes a little awkward.

    Fare/Upgrade/Status Visibility

On a SYD-LAX flight a little while ago one of the other F pax had bought a new iPad from the duty free Apple Store but was having issues setting it up on the flight. The CSM came around and quietly asked if I would help, because my profile noted that I was in IT. I don't know whether that came...

Short turnarounds: Have you flown back from your destination with the same crew?

My understanding was that the website simply unlocked seats that were blocked for status reasons (ie not being able to select a seat in Row 1 as I wasn't P1/CL), not that it would allow the selection of a seat that had already been allocated. As much as we like to criticise Qantas' IT systems I...

Short turnarounds: Have you flown back from your destination with the same crew?

One of my favourite travel stories involves having the same crew on a short turnaround. I went through a stage where one of my key staff members was based in Adelaide and I was regularly flying CBR-ADL-CBR day trips so we could have face-to-face meetings at the Adelaide QC. At the time there...

The most surprisingly good restaurant you've discovered while travelling

Interesting thread! We found a very surprising Italian restaurant in London last week, a deli / small goods retailer during the day that moonlights as a small restaurant at night. Fine Foods Deli in Kipling Estate...

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

As predicted, no invite to the special area in SYD yesterday as I was flying BA F. The average champagne offering of Piper ran out after my first glass, this was at about 1pm. Guess the Monday morning fliers drank more than expected.

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Thanks. I'll report back if my experience is any different. I guess the trade-off is the roped-off area at SYD First versus the Concorde Room at T5 LHR on the way back home.
