Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

Seems a foregone conclusion in this discussion (and elsewhere too) that if Indigo takes over then Virgin will be converted into a budget carrier. Is that so certain? If they feel that the Australian market is different to other markets they operate in and can support something in between a full...

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

With LAX having a lot of competition, could a 777 make it from SYD or BNE to SEA? SEA is a DL hub which would be good for connectivity. Fair bit of cargo traffic still possible from there too I imagine.

A toast to Virgin Australia, some fond memories

2003 - my first flight with Virgin Blue, Gold Coast holiday with my parents. Back in the days when they had two fare types, the "Fair Fare" and the "Flex Fare" 2012 - first flight with the new Virgin Australia, SYD-MEL. 2016 - flew on the Virgin Samoa plane, although not to Samoa but to...

Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

Yep adding my voice to the crowd, my review date is April 2020 and email says I've been extended to April 2020. Looks like an error with the mailout script, no big deal I'm sure they will send another soon. Have re-qualified anyway so fingers crossed they will give me til 2022!

Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

Good start, and if things are better by June then probably all we need. I imagine they will review and offer more if we're still in lockdown come June/July.

VA withdraws all services from Hong Kong

Sad but understandable. Suppose the A330 will be back on transcon for the moment?

    ANA codeshare - likely benefits

I'm hopeful we will see an agreement more like what we have with EY, SQ, DL etc rather than something more limited. Whilst partnering on the Australia - Japan and domestic networks on either side is a good start, would be awesome if you could earn points / credits and receive lounge access etc...

Qantas Business Class customers bumped to economy in Tokyo

Exactly why I didn't speak up. For various reasons I needed to be on that flight and made the choice to bite my tongue rather than risk it.

Qantas Business Class customers bumped to economy in Tokyo

In 2016 on a SYD-JNB flight I too was downgraded by Qantas. Your experience was better than mine though OP, the check-in agent at the Business class counter didn't even bother to inform us. I only realised we were in Economy when I looked at our boarding passes. When raised at the customer...

[Price Error] Melbourne to Azerbaijan $360 Return on Virgin/Etihad

I missed the $199 Madrid fare but did get the next offer they had, $399! And even better it was on Etihad, so I'll get to use my VA status privileges!

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

27/10/19 | VA82 | HKG to SYD Part two due to photo attachment limits! Enjoyed a reasonably comfortable (albeit brief) sleep, I rarely sleep well on planes and the cabin was a little warm for my liking, but the flight attendants were certainly quick to get everyone's beds ready when requested. I...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

27/10/19 | VA82 | HKG to SYD Finally back to provide a review of my return home on the red-eye flight to Sydney. Started with a pre-departure champagne as always... Menus and wake-up cards were handed out. As some have mentioned above, due to the African Swine Fever outbreak pork has been...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

From memory on transcon, lunch service starts at 0930. My last SYD-PER flight had a scheduled 0935 departure so got very lucky and had lunch!

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

12/10/19 | VA83 | SYD to HKG My first experience of The Business on a long-haul international journey and it did not disappoint! Started off with a pre-departure beverage, the fabulous Ayala Brut Majeur champagne... Menus handed out soon after. Once we were in the air I opted for a gin...

    UpgradeMe pricing and success

12/10/19 | VA83 | SYD to HKG | bid $650 which was about $20-30 above the minimum, bid accepted for two seats pretty much straight away after the 75hr window had passed. No more than 2-3 seats empty in The Business. 27/10/19 | VA82 | HKG to SYD | bid $655 which was a token $5 above the minimum...

No more free items from retail menu when flying business

Hope the VA reps read this and communicate to staff. Understand the changes but a little common sense is required, I highly doubt this was senior management's intention.

Airlines eye new slots at Haneda (Tokyo)

This is exciting news! Makes me wonder if that tie up with NH is gaining any traction. Could be a new option for flights to Europe/North America

So what routes will VA cut ?

Might sound a bit counter-intuitive but I also hope they take this opportunity while cutting in some places to look at what existing routes could do with additional service and also, which new and innovative routes could be introduced should they have capacity. Wish list would include seasonal...

    Virgin Australia Financials 2019/20

Agree that Tiger is toxic, it needs to rebrand or it needs to go. In terms of VA operations unbundling makes sense and lets VA maintain a low headline price. I'm thinking something along the lines of NZ's seats to suit. Shame the HKG flights haven't worked. Can't think of any alternative...

I am "almost" completely fed up with Qantas, whats it like on the "Dark side" ?

Have flown VA and partners almost exclusively since 2016, after a nightmare of an experience on QF flights to and from South Africa where on the way they downgraded us from Business to Economy at the check in desk and then on the way back we departed Johannesburg on a 12hr flight with no...
