Ok so this plot thickens... I tried booking my Europe-HKG-NRT with a -connection- (3 hrs) not even a stopover and she said it would be two separate awards... Last week when making sure the seats were available on the two legs before I transferred the points across the one on the phone said...

AA doesn't allow stopovers though right? In my case I'm going to skip the stopover in HKG now as the next day there isn't a HKG-NRT F seat available. I'll just have a longer stopover in Tokyo :).

So are you saying I should book the conf flight and then call and have them add on the preferred flight waitlists instead of waitlisting (online) all the preferred flights and then booking the "worst case" but confirmed? Need to keep the 15% discount. If it matters at all the "worst case" is...

Excellent thanks for your help. When(if) one of the better waitlisted flights opens up will it all work out time wise to cancel the booked flight and take the cleared WL?

If I waitlist a flight does it take the points or could I WL a couple of preferred flights and then book an available flight so something is at least locked in?

Thanks for that info. Looks like I'll go with HND as the time also allows a full day of exploring. This will be a day or two stop on the way back from a month in Europe and I plan on making the most of my time eating some good Japanese sushi that's for sure! :)

Lounge wise there doesn't seem to be a difference? Doesn't seem to have anything special like the sushi bar at JAL First lounge?

That seems to be incorrect. I could not find that limitation listed in their terms or mentioned anywhere however any miles blogger talking about it always involves US start or end but that'd be because they are US based. I'd say HUACA. As its been a few days any update on trying again? I wanted...
