Rex Administration - implications for Virgin Australia

In reality Rex were going to continue running 737s only as long as PAG were happy to tip in more capital. I imagine people talk in investment banking/PE industries just as they talk in every other one.

No thanks. Gut the other parts of the business first before this is even begun to be considered.

    Virgin Australia B737 Max 8

No liferafts, bio treatment, and live on the other AOC i think.

Rex Administration - implications for Virgin Australia

I don't think it'll be that bad, but yes there's no doubt things won't be as cheap. On the flip side they may be more sustainable. We will probably still see a downward trend in fares, just because Rex isn't there doesn't make the broader economy any better.

Even better if you actually get paid for it...

Wouldn't say slow. It's very comparable to driving and being able to get off at Broadmeadows means a 10 minute free bus trip to Tullamarine. However point taken it's not totally reliable.

Wouldn't be so sure. When you put in the request, the confirmation email refers to Bonza all over it!

Rex Administration - implications for Virgin Australia

I imagine they get goodwill, surety a competitor is gone (big barrier to successful IPO eliminated) and no barrier to accessing the 3 aircraft they want from the ZL fleet. Worth the price.

Rex Administration - implications for Virgin Australia

Rex were interline partners of sorts back in the day, before some dispute knocked it off. You could fly PER-ADL and through check luggage on to a ZL connection for example.

Thanks. I am guessing "the arrangement" with EY is basically, we want the planes and we may want the crews. We'll make it easy for you, you make it easy for us, and you get to keep some goodwill/reputation in the Rex brand. Works for all parties.

Hopefully the crew flying ZL489 to Adelaide have a hotel to go to... 1722334446 Feds should do nothing at all. If the states have a problem with essential air service then I guess they can make whatever arrangements they like but I'm sure someone is waiting to jump in. Hopefully this is all...

No idea, I suppose. And zero announcement about cancellations. A totally unnecessary mess

Same, given quite a number would've been through the uncertainty of the events at VA. Very sad.

Given it's a Tuesday there is not a PER rotation, so I guess the 20:00 dep, one each from SYD & MEL.

Where there is smoke there is fire in situations like this. There's been rumours for weeks. I agree unfortunate for the staff but it's how these things always go. TBH given the Rex track record, perhaps management not being in charge is a better outcome for staff right now.

Can still see flights for today. It would be interesting to be on their last 737 flight. But I don't feel like potentially kissing goodbye to $100.

A shame really, but also a wonderful case study in what years of poor management in an otherwise profitable venture will net you.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Operationally for VA it makes a lot of sense to take over some of the Rex network again. It would assist with transcon traffic to/from Perth for example. However, realistically VA have their own capex commitments to try and fund over the medium term, so having a whole other operation to fund is...

Qantas Promises to Fix Ongoing Reward Flight Ticketing Failures

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

The problems are of their own making. Hardly any market recognition (though at least they have a marketing campaign now) and the only part of the business which they could use to pay for this jet experiment has been left to rot. What were the discussions when they were adding more 737s to the...
