5000 Bonus Points for Additional Cardholder

I called when the offer was on my husband’s account but not mine to be told it was targeted so not available for me. A month-ish later I received the offer via email. Despite that, I reckon it’s worth a call!

5000 Bonus Points for Additional Cardholder

Excellent, one of ours has arrived. Just waiting on the second lot (unfortunately that’s the card I want to cancel to start the 18 months on the bench again. But good planning / marketing on AMEX’s behalf, it’s kept me as a customer for longer)

Virgin mocks Qantas with bill board ad

No, that’s an incorrect assumption. I pay for the bulk of my travel which is leisure (work travel wouldn’t get me to silver let alone gold). You nailed it in your last sentence, status credits are there to create loyalty (ie drive the type of business an airline wants) not reward loyalty!

Virgin mocks Qantas with bill board ad

Comfortable isn’t the right word.... maybe pragmatic? I see the (status) scheme a carrot to keep you coming back, rather than rewarding loyalty. I can’t say I’m ‘loyal’ to Virgin (cause outside of work I do consider my options rather than automatically book with them) but they generally works...

Virgin mocks Qantas with bill board ad

You’re right, a forum is no place for discussion. What were we thinking??

Virgin mocks Qantas with bill board ad

Interesting. I just re read the velocity page on status credits & the word loyalty doesn’t appear. Maybe I’ve just accepted the status quo, but don’t feel I’m being penalised for gaining / using our swag of points? I see status as a bunch of arbitrary rules which I’m happy to use/ manipulate...

not sure, it wasn’t mine. Good to know, as I was hoping my older one wasn’t a fluke (we’ve still another)

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Thanks, I am yet to try their riesling! I think it was the 2012. We had our 2011(? It was a year older) the same night which blew it away. May have been a bottle fault, but there was still some bubble? Did we hold them too long? I am no expert!

I noticed last week ours is weird too for the second leg, the first is fine. The summary says row 1, but when I got into manage booking it’s definitely row 3 which is what I chose. I keep checking expecting to see an aircraft swap...

Virgin mocks Qantas with bill board ad

Off topic, but 29 flights and you didn’t maintain silver? I’m staggered by that! What proportion were award flights?

    RTW award flights itinerary questions

Thanks for sharing the outcome, much appreciated. Have a fabulous trip! We’re thinking of a combined US / Europe trip in a couple of years time, but I fear that booking an itinerary like that may be above my skill set & patience :-( Perhaps I should start researching properly....

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Well done. We collect for and donate travel stuff to a women’s shelter at work. But it’s a quandary, as the environmentalist in me hates ALL THE PLASTIC this consumes, but we still do as the humanatiarian wins out. If your idea can check both those boxes, it will be the best thing ever!!

Hertz Rental Norway - twice as dear if I book under Hertz Gold Plus

Added an extra day to our UK hire car last night and the price dropped by £29  Maybe the longer stay switched to a better rate? But I also found that using my hertz gold membership was more expensive than booking as a guest when I did the original booking
