    Lounge Access Help Desk

In my experience (as recently as December) with Qantas Club you can access any Admirals Club before a flight on AA. It definitely did not need to be booked as a QF codeshare or part of a QF ticket.

Best points earning card for international spend

I use both 28 degrees mastercard and CBA plat Amex. Over many transactions and currencies this year, I have not found there to be a significant difference between the exchange rates of the 2 cards. I will now always preferentially use the CBA Amex now, however, for the following reasons: -...

A new "high" on QF First [Denied sparkling water before departure from LAX]

As a point of reference I have flown AA on PEK-ORD-PEK in J several times in the past year and they have happily offered champagne after boarding (with top-ups) in both directions. I did the same route on UA about 18 months ago in J and they offered a full bar service before take off in both...

China - never a dull moment!

I believe I saw these the other week but didn't remember what thew were called. They were first class seats arranged in a 2-1 configuration rather than a 2-2 config. They were on a Beijing South to Tianjin service. The train also had Business Class available.

London Oyster Card v Australian Credit Cards

As another data point, I successfully used my Commonwealth Bank platinum Amex to tap on/off the London Underground on multiple occasions last week and it worked fine. I was also able to go online to get a trip list / receipt for the journeys. It worked seamlessly.

    Unusual CBA Amex decline

I've done some more trials over the past week (all in Chinese RMB) and found the following with the CBA card.. When the terminal prompts for a PIN, if I enter the pin the card automatically declines (and it never seems to hit my account or the back records even as an attempted transaction). If...

    Unusual CBA Amex decline

Hello, I wanted to share an experience of an unusual "declined" transaction and see if anyone else had experienced similar issues. I recently received a CBA Amex Platinum card (to enjoy the fee free overseas transactions with the points, and to avoid any DCC worries that have previously...

China - never a dull moment!

The non Chinese credit cards are now accepted through the Didi app. The driver called me on my Chinese mobile phone as a normal phone call, not through data. Hope this helps-

China - never a dull moment!

With the Didi ridesharing app now available in English, I installed in and tried it in Beijing over the last 2 weeks, doing a total of 3 trips. Its been running in English for a short while now, so I wanted to share my experiences in Beijing. I connected it to my Wechat pay (wei xin) account...

Vancouver to Fairbanks clearing USA Customs

Last month I travelled YVR to DFW and expected to do US immigration at YVR, only to be told that they had closed for the day (I think it was at 2000, but can't be sure, my flight was around 2200) and that USA flights after that time depart as normal international departures. Flying AA, we then...

    Fuel shortage at AKL

I had wondered why the Air China 787 service from AKL to PEK, CA784, had been operating via SYD.. this explains it

Which AFFer has flown on the greatest number of mainland Chinese airlines?

A lot of my friends do think that I'm crazy for flying rather than taking the train. They are usually the ones who travel between capitals frequently. A lot of my travel, however, is to destinations not served by high speed rail. A lot of them are reasonably obscure destinations, which is why I...

Which AFFer has flown on the greatest number of mainland Chinese airlines?

Some of the more difficult connections i've had have largely been due to confusing signage and limited English being spoken, which sometimes results in inconsistent advice being given (in English) by airline staff. Xiamen Airlines was quite difficult - I bought a roundtrip ticket from Beijing...

Which AFFer has flown on the greatest number of mainland Chinese airlines?

I saw that announcement last week. I haven't flown VA for several years, but actually prefer Hainan Airlines to VA. Their longhaul 787s fly nonstop from Beijing to some unusual destinations in North America, and have good legroom (I'm quite tall). I have flown their A330 from Xi'an to Paris and...

Which AFFer has flown on the greatest number of mainland Chinese airlines?

I've flown on the following Mainland airlines in the past 2-1/2 years, below is a list with a one-line summary about each of them (all flights in Y except for 1 CA flight in F) Air China, 63 flights, 99145km. Solid but dull carrier. 62 flights in economy, 1 in first. 6/10, good English...

Most Obscure Commercial Airline That You have Flown

Definitely mine is Hongtu Airlines, who I flew on last week. My flight was flight number A67109 on a very modern A321 (B-8285) from Kunming to Hefei, in China. Hadn't heard of the airline before booking it last week, but went from where I was to where I needed to go at the right time. I see they...

    28 Degrees C/C under Latitude

I have still found the rates to be excellent, as close to the Interbank rate as any card. The rates for purchases on this card always seem just slightly better than withdrawals from the Citi Plus debit card. This is based on recent correctly processed transactions in Mainland China, Hong Kong...
