With QF Gold or above you can call and do the seat selection when you have booked the flight. I did mine several months ahead at no charge.

Just note that while your status gets you advance seat selection for free, you can’t do this via their website. You need to call them, their operators can see your status (if you’ve included your QF number in the booking) and will do it for you.
