    Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

I don't believe its the throwing back that's the issue - such has long happened when a six is scored. Its the fact that someone from the Indian side is in-place to get the ball from the boundary to save the on-field players having to go to the boundary to retrieve. If it's a well hit 4, might...

Are hotel loyalty programs more practical than FFPs?

I would hold the opposite view from Ben. With hotel loyalty programs there seems so many inconsistencies and places that opt out and simple failure to deliver benefits (which need to be delivered straight away or it’s not recoverable, such as a room upgrade) that hotel status is very...

Novotel BKK leaving Accor Jan 31st

Exactly. Being met at the baggage carousel at the airport and having your bags taken care of from there, a substantial room upgrade and access to executive lounge etc. Etc for being Accor plat. Ta-ta to any of that. Not a dealbreaker with the change in franchise but not inconsequential either.

I Have Five Days In Egypt - What Do I Do?

I recall when I first went, maybe 30 years ago now  I was at first terrified being driven around by our hosts - inter-stitching traffic at intersections, door-handle-to-door-handle , lanes, lights, everything ignored. But then I realised that we never got up to a speed where any damage...

La Mer, le Canal & les Pyrénées

When I visited Casablanca a few times abt 10 years ago, there were 'beach clubs' dotted along the foreshore. Maybe JV saw them too, but if not I wonder if they have closed and now just rotting away? The square and souq looks less manic than when I was there - downturn too? (But maybe you...

    Long enough layover? (DOH)

@L_MareeB you should be OK; DOH is quite an efficient airport - BUT if you arrive during the night, at peak, the concourses can be crazy busy, as will the lounges. Have a map of the concourses ready, so you know where to go after transit security. Same when you get to the lounge - go straight...

A Boyhood Dream Fulfilled: Space-Geek Tour of the USA

That's what I would do, and did. There used to be a shuttle from the Smithsonian out to U-H but I think Covid took care of that. Not sure if you contemplated visiting the US Space & Rocket Center museum in Huntsville, Alabama. If so, good decision not to - I was a bit disappointed in it...

I Have Five Days In Egypt - What Do I Do?

I remember sitting down at an outdoor restaurant in a laneway in Khan el Khalidi with our Egyptian geologist contact. He ordered for us. The laneway was full of pigeons, so guess what was on the menu? 🍽️

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

Yes, in total, but I was referring to just including one or two QF flights in the around the world I was discussing.

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

So, a bit of a summing-up. I did a Finnair RTW (needs a Travel Agent to book), cost abt $10K for J, booked Jan 2024. Starting in Sydney, this allowed me a stop-over in Asia (which I didn't take) (Qantas), fly to Helsinki, then fly to anywhere in Europe and back to Helsinki, (open jaw OK)...

Qantas surveying members about spend-based status attainment

Agree re recovery from bad PR, but if any FF program could sustain a backlash, its Qantas with its very sticky FFers. There would be short term backlash by elites (and I haven't heard the VA thing rumbling much lately) Vs long term benefits to the airline. Cull a few elites, but the QFF...

    Accor Plus Membership Discussion

Hmmmm... I wonder if that accounts for my generally disappointing 'reception' as a Play in Europe recently? All bookings made when I was silver, stayed when Plat. Can't be bothered correlating those stays when I contacted them beforehand or not. Next run of stays is in Asia Pacific, so hoping...

That's what happened.. I checked and there were no J seats on the direct flights and only a couple on flights after lunch via MEL. 10am departure on VA was perfect timing.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

All I could do was look out the window where it was teeming when we landed at 6:30am with heavy very heavy grey clouds. And still raining when I went over to domestic. 🤷‍♂️
