US entry paperwork - Qantas "upcoming trip" email

I’m guessing that during the pandemic it was a simpler way for them to file away contact tracing information rather than trying to extract it from APIS. Cross agency data sharing may have been messy, especially if they needed it ASAP.

The hot and cold Xmas/NY break

I don’t regard that as a bad thing. It’s keeping my garden watered while I’m away for the month. 😊

What is the most visually impressive mountain range in the world?

Caucuses are impressive as a long straight range of snow capped peaks.

Your 2024 year of travel in review

My final flight for the year departs MIA 15:30 on the 31st, arrives DFW 17:56 (!) Anyone taking a flight closer to midnight?

FT v AFF - or what makes a good post?

I was amazed at the vitriol in the Air Canada one; haven't bothered with it for a long time. Canadians are usually such mild and agreeable people!

    Colombia pre arrival info

Colombia has a 'CheckMIG' on-line form to fill out for intending arrivals and departures. It says its there to 'speed up' the process and needs to be filled out 72-1 hours before arrival. Sources like Sherpa say it needs to be filled out. https://apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co/pre-registro/en...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

I get the impression it may not be a dealbreaker for you :) but price the accommodation up-front to see what you might be up for. When I looked at Barbados about 10 months out for 3 nights it was O-M-G . Drove me to my first ever AirB&B. Almost everything I saw were high end (gated...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

Thanks @jase05 . As I’ll discuss more in my summing up, the cruise part of this TI should be looked through the filter of me not being a classic cruise enthusiast. Such may have been obvious. 😂. But the cruise was a good way to see a variety of Caribbean Island countries with little effort...

    WSI for Western Sydney Airport

I don’t have a Facebook account so maybe I didn’t get the full experience but what on earth was the point of them releasing that? I just saw a few pans over some fairly cheap-looking ceiling work.

A word on the dining on board. As mentioned before, I'm not a great 'diner' either at home or abroad. For those who know the SilverSea set up on these classes of ships, SALT was my favourite for dinner, as they have a 'local inspired' menu every evening, as well as one they keep for the entire...

US entry paperwork - Qantas "upcoming trip" email

I got almost the same email from American Airlines yesterday because I have a journey from Cartagena to Miami in two days time. 30 seconds to fill out the Hotel address, my email etc and it’s happy Do you mean it’s not needed to fill in? By the wording of the AA email you do have to doit.

    The view from my "office"

Abaco Libros y Cafe, Cartagena. Ya gotta love a coffee shop in a bookshop. And If you can’t get good coffee in Colombia, there is no hope.

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

After lunch, a walk to see the town. The great pink think I saw from the boat turned out to be a pretty vulgar hotel/shopping centre. Walking on a bit, a square and then the main street where some effort has been made, although it was pretty dead But beyond that, it got pretty tacky -...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

There it is - coo, a real submarine. Boarding seating in rows facing the portholes. We descended gradually; was unsure how deep we would go. The reef and fish again were a bit pedestrian, but hey, we are submarining! Looking forward, towards the pilot. Several wrecks...

My excursion this morning was on the Atlantis VI submarine. Not sure how much of a real submarine experience it will be ... On a bus first, fortunately not this one And then onto a small vessel to transport us south along the coast to where the submarine is. Will have to check this out...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

Another overnight transit and we arrive at Oranjestad. capital of Aruba, another of the Netherlands Antilles. The port area decidedly less salubrious than Willemstad. Built open to the sea, save for a fringing reef, which was my initial view. Given the narrowness of the channel, I was...
