Worst Domestic Qantas Lounges & What Can be Done About It?

(I know you are kidding) QF never has, and never will operate international out of Hobart; presently there is Air NZ to AKL, seasonal. With the new longer, strengthened runway, the airport hopes to attract Asian carriers, but they may be lucky. What I'm hoping for is a QR tag flight to, say...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

So.... back to the trip. We motored to an uninhabited island sth of the main island. I was hoping to do some swimming off a sandy beach, but we moored off maybe the only non sandy beach in the Caribbean. But I guess rocks are better for snorkelling. About 45 mins there and then the...

How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

That's it, thanks! I enjoyed many a Saki highball in their poolside bar. :)

How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

It was probably better in the 1980s when I lived there. I think it was the Sheraton that just opened (now Hilton) and it was very high standard (bosses used to stay there and we went there often). And a place whose name I can't recall, but now DoubleTree, built by Japanese and by all accounts...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

Coming back to this. I think some people (not yourself :) ) seem to view solo travellers as a sad lot, sitting alone, playing on their phones during meals. Being solo in travel 'forces' you to interact with others, more I think than a couple who may be happy with their own accustomed...

IHG vs Accor in Europe + Asia

I recently did two weeks in Germany Austria and France ( just one stay of two nights) as an Accor plat and frankly wasn’t terribly impressed with plat benefits. This surprised me, being close to their home as it were. If it was purely in France, it might have been better.

    Dress Codes when Cruising

Ummmm …. Has anyone actually said they have refused to wear a jacket? Or is that observation part of the hysteria as well? 🤔 😎

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

We sailed overnight onto Bequia, the largest island in the 'Grenadines' portion of St Vincent and the Grenadines, and country #103. Wikipedia again: Bequia s the largest island in the Grenadines at 7 square miles (18 km2). It is part of the country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and is...

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

Not just on-shore, I found. When on board, finalising the rego process (photos taken etc). I was asked for a USA ESTA. I pointed out to them that I was getting off in Colombia and why did they need to see an ESTA? I showed then a Visa and they were happy. Later, when I found someone...

    Dress Codes when Cruising

On SS its the poolside grill - we who eschew a jacket etc in the tropics when eating (AKA 'slobs') are outside only! And you can ask the butler if there is a jacket available, which is exactly what I did, and got, and wore, the 2 'Formal optional' nights. But I took it off when I sat down...

Worst Domestic Qantas Lounges & What Can be Done About It?

Oooooh! You know that's my favourite topic. No change to HBA QP. BUT work has commenced on the terminal building which should increase overall floor-space. Qantas say that they will expand their QP when that happens, but I'll believe it when I see it. The expansion isn't large and I wager...

    Dress Codes when Cruising

BTW my first experience with a cruise line dress code was with Ponant, Darwin to Broome cruise and there were advertised 'white nights' where everyone was encouraged to wear semi-formal white. Believe it or not, I did pack a (borrowed) white jacket for that cruise and when I showed up for the...

    Dress Codes when Cruising

So much passion - like the Qantas dress code thread. LoL. And the maître d should have a rattan cane to beat the offenders with as he sends them on their way. :) _________________ Personally, I think asking for a tuxedo to be worn, let alone wearing one while on a cruise in the...

    The view from my "office"

Yeah, I walked into that one didn’t I? Yes, it was very good and more so because it was unexpected and we had a great view.

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

Will post more on this aspect a bit later. Suffice to say now that my experience as a solo traveler on this SilverSea cruise is vastly different than that on my last one. Huge. And as for being well healed, compared to many, probably most on this cruise, I am definitely down on my luck. 😊

    The view from my "office"

O.M.G. Leaving Willemstad, backing out down the narrow channel in a warm evening. First, fireworks for 15 mins (I don’t think they were meant for us 😊) Alternative transport Past the partygoers all waving us goodbye as the ship sounds its horn The end of the pontoon bridge, opened...

    The view from my "office"

The architecture is pretty simple, but the lick of paint makes all the difference. In the TR I’ll post pictures from even the backstreets, looking really fabulous. Meanwhile .. Head and shoulders myfavourite town of the trip so far and not just because of the pretty lights

Christmas markets in Europe and Caribbean cruise (RTW)

We continued motoring north, past Castries' harbour, to Rodney Bay. It was dark and while you could see the lights of buildings on the hills, that was about it. Two hours of this. Someone asked our host what there was to see, the answer was "Its dark. There's nothing to see." Totally...
