    The view from my "office"

I had a family member followed over the fence by a Hereford bull many years ago, on a family property in Qld. Luckily for her, the bull was more interested in a different group of females!

QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

With A330s on QF127, then probably not so easy. But you don't know until you give it a go.

    The view from my "office"

Sadly this week, and the next two, will have this view!! Stuck in the office with the only consolation being the fees earned will add to the EK bottom line when I book our next trip.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

At the heart of things, Government works on an annual cash basis as many on here would know. So one-off grants fit perfectly in the recurrent spending cycle of annual allocations, and do not tie the Govt to long term involvement through share ownership.

Latitude 28 Degrees $8 per month starting September 2024

I also use the 28D card as a backup, and for car hire or similar when the pre-auth likely hangs around for up to10 days. I hardly use the card in reality, and will probably consider cancellation when I get back from my OS trip in early December.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

When Rex was a "country" airline, it was in a separate category to the likes of DJ, JQ, YM and TT. Pilots behind a curtain and make your own cup of tea down the back, led to a very different flying experience (which I loved). So not originally a LCC, more a RRC (Rural and Remote Carrier).

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Rex didn't fail on the jet side of the business because of its lounges. There seems to be a lot of snobbery about domestic lounges, but what Rex had this time round was well above the old lounge from years ago in SYD T2 that was a bit like a large meeting room behind a sliding door. Having...

Article: Best Credit Cards for Overseas Travel & Online Shopping

I think we are at cross purposes. My first post was: And you replied: And after that we had BW MC, WBC, BW Card and I referred to World Wide Wallet (lets call it WWW). I use that WWW card, buying GBP when AUD up a bit and leaving it there (for up to 9-10 mths between trips). You are probably...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I see this as too speculative and long term. The key for the govt will be retaining services, not letting ZL fold and wait to see if other small players can scrounge enough planes to fill the gap in a reasonable time frame. Unless you have lived in rural/remote areas, or travelled there...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

The "issues" seem to be different for the different "camps" on this issue. I think most are in furious agreement with the notion that Rex pursued a high stakes venture into Jet operations on the golden triangle, and lost. How much of govt vs investor money was lost will probably never be known...

Article: Best Credit Cards for Overseas Travel & Online Shopping

I must be missing something here, because I am not using AUD on the card. If for example I am in the UK I buy in GBP. Then that gets converted to AUD at the MC daily rate with $0 conversion fee. The only time I use AUD is when paying off the card each month. Because I have a substantial credit...

    The view from my "office"

Cronulla today after several days of rough weather has left only about a quarter of the beach - the rest dumped out at sea. However, it provided good conditions for a bit of helicopter rescue practice under the flight path for SYD.

I never use the World MC for cash advances, so have never worried about the 3%. All foreign transactions are fee free, and that is all that i worry about (although i also get 1QFF pt per $1).

Article: Best Credit Cards for Overseas Travel & Online Shopping

I have stuck with the Bankwest World MC for the last couple of years, and it has worked well with no exchange fees and uses the standard MC rate of the day for conversion. I have kept my 28 degrees card for some one-offs like hire cars, where the held amount can persist for 10+ days after...

    Favourite airline on-board freebie?

For some reason I used to pocket the clear plastic salt & peppers off AY flights. Still have a couple in circulation. I also have the table cloth with adhesive label that was wrapped around a bottle red from a QF flight where they ran out of food options for me. I have since drunk the red, but...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Well given that The Australian was running with the headline that QR might be the saviour of ZL (perhaps through VA) then why would you want to ignore it? While speculative on the journo's part, seems on-topic.

AFF Review: ScootPlus on the Boeing 787-8 (ICN-SIN)

Thanks for the review Matt. We have been lucky enough to get PE reward flights to SIN from SYD in the last 2 years that enabled us to connect with an ME carrier from there (in J). But with our move to ME carriers, our QF status will fall to SG soon and we will have buckley's chance of snagging...

Quite a different picture to when ZL (Hazelton) used to be based out of Cudal!
