Is it just me, or are Japan flights disrupted a lot?

Not to go on like a broken record, but QF international is disproportionately affected by QF's many maintenance issues with its aging fleet.

20% Reduction in Platinum/Platinum One Retention Thresholds (July/Aug/Sept Membership Year Ends)

It probably just suggests QF's data is indicating a sharper drop off in P1/P members than originally forecast, so they're responding to it as any sensible business would, mindful of the LTV of many in the cohort. Nearly all major full-service airlines have indicated business travel is still...

    Qantas First Lounge in Singapore

That’s an interesting decision seeing as the previous day’s QF2 (delayed 28 hours) won’t arrive until 8:30pm, which is 2.5 hours after today’s scheduled arrival. Also worth noting that today’s QF1 has been delayed 25 hours until tomorrow, so those passengers wont be utilising the lounge this...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

This is good news about the hot towels. I heard the same date thrown around a couple of months ago, so it sounds like they've firmed up on it. It'll please many, no doubt. As a very long time SQ passenger @mel-world, I'd be interested to hear more about the feedback you submitted.

How best to give Qantas some feedback

I'm going a bit off-topic here but a few weeks ago I sent (constructive) email feedback after some pretty ordinary experiences across the 16+ international flights I've done in the last month. I was surprised to receive an email response three days later, asking me for a convenient time to...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

While I don’t have any evidence as such, I recall being told that Saver redemptions could be changed or cancelled up until 24 hours prior to departure. This is going back about 10 years, so I have no idea whether this is still accurate or not. It does seem to be an omission on SQ’s behalf that...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The new earn rate really is not compelling. With my current spend, it would take me at least a couple of years to get close to a premium cabin redemption to Europe. Time to have a look at that HSBC Star Alliance card...

New Amex redemption rates for SQ/EK; adding transfers to QR/HA

Got the email too. Very bad news for those of us attached to KrisFlyer. It’s now a very difficult currency to accumulate in Australia. The addition of QR is very good - since they’ve adopted Avios there are some excellent options, though the main problem is availability.

SIN First Lounge access on arrival?

Qantas' inflexibility with arrival access in SIN is quite frustrating at times. I arrived on QF at about 5pm and had to go straight for a dinner engagement on arrival. I asked very nicely for an exception as I was desperate for a quick shower as it would be another 6 or so hours before I'd be...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I'm a big fan of Rauzan Segla but the Albert Bichot Corton is also an excellent Burgundy. For those not overly keen on Pinots, this is one that I think will move the needle. Another very good one SQ currently has on rotation - but not to Australia - is Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande. If...

    Qantas brand badly tarnished

For me, one of impacts of a 'tarnished brand' is that passengers start paying close attention to issues. It's hypersensitivity and I'm a case in point. I flew back from HND to SYD a couple of days ago. Upon boarding, the cabin was filthy and hot, with non-functioning entertainment. The CSM...

This is reasonable progress on the wines...we're moving in the right direction. Still some work to do, but it does show they are listening, finally. Credit where credit is due. I'd like to see some movement on that food menu too... I've been very pleased to see Piper Rare 07 back on the list in...

    Qantas starts international wifi

SQ will be providing unlimited free wifi to all passengers in all classes from 1 July. The only caveat is that you'll need to have a Krisflyer number on your booking. QF's tardiness with rolling it out on longhaul flights is very frustrating. They might like to claim that the speeds aren't good...

    Qantas First Lounge in Singapore

Perhaps the lounge is a victim of its own success. It can only be a compliment that word has travelled far and wide to passengers of other airlines to the extent it’s commonly known as the go-to for anyone eligible. Even when it is completely full I find it an oasis of calm, generous hospitality.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Well this is good news! It’s almost a year since I’ve seen Piper Rare available on one of my visits. Let’s see if it’s still available next week when I’m there… Truth be told, those wines in SYD F are still leaps and bounds above what we’ve been getting in the Melbourne F lounge. Think Koonunga...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I’d say my odds of success with the wifi are about 80%. The two aircraft types I have problems with are the last tranche of 777s (SWU-SNC) and the A350 Medium Hauls. I rarely have issues with any other aircraft in the fleet.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes, it’s supply issues and it’s not only affecting the towels. I understand that they are still having issues with nearly all items coming from China, which is most onboard amenities. It has also been compounded by SQ deciding to change their logistics supplier in Singapore during Covid. The...

    Ask The Pilot

Yes, I was on a QF 737 last week that sat fully boarded at the gate in SYD for 40 minutes before the pilots arrived to operate the service. Nary a word from them until the descent either.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I will be honest and disclose that I've frequently been invited to use the F lavatory when the J lavatory has been occupied on 777 flights. This is something that only the CS/CSS will permit and each time I've been escorted forward. I think they only ever offer this to Solitaires as I think...

QF Club vs QF J Lounge @ SYD - What's the difference?

I almost fell off my chair last night when they came around with a plate of the day in the SYD J lounge. It was a chicken burger. While it was cold (not sure if this is intentional or not), it was very much appreciated and enjoyed. It was genuinely good and marks the first real improvement I've...
