Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Firstly, we must acknowledge that Virgin is primarily a Domestic airline, and its international partnerships are unpredictable and unsustainable without VA being part of a real alliance that provides a standard set benefit to passengers. My initial thought is that the changes feel consistent...

Fraud on Velocity Frequent Flyer accounts

So, through no fault of your own...they lock you out of your account... Can you earn points? Does your status work? Lately, a heap of sophisticated scams have been going on in the airline/hotel loyalty arena. Our firm sees how the scammers achieve everything because they're also talking about...

    Virgin Beyond

At $100K you're in the bottom 5% of the top 1%. The best you can do is go where you're treated best. Forget being loyal to an airline brand. Spread it out between the airlines, lock your Platinum status in, and call it a day. Don't bother contacting the airline about anything special until...

    status match

Many airlines have a 'once in a lifetime' policy with status matches. It's an oldskool airline management thing. New school thinking hasn't reached Australia yet. Give it a few years.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

I posted on AFF about 2 years ago that this would happen and how it would play out. This all started about 15 years ago...

    Emirates wifi

I have no problem with EK fobbing off QF members. Wifi for economy class is based on your loyalty to EK Skywards. Frankly, I can't wait for the day that EK stops allowing QF Plats to enter the DXB F lounge. QF Plat is nowhere near as easy to achieve as EK Plat. They are not like-for-like.

Theft in lounges - how frequent?

If you leave your bag unattended in a lounge, you invite trouble -- *ESPECIALLY* in a western country. The same goes for unlocked bags in overhead lockers. Theft happens far more than you can imagine -- even in first class lounges.

Article: Ultimate Guide to Etihad Business Class Seats

A reasonable guide for anyone looking to snag the best biz seat. The big downside of the EY biz class, however, is no headrest wings.

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

If I were Miles & More.... I would give all ITA status holders who matched = Frequent Traveler. Any ITA matches where the member has taken at least X flights using their status on ITA = Senator.

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

I think you'll be fortunate if ITA matches translate into Frequent Traveller status (Star Silver). I suspect that half of China has ITA status at this stage.

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

Check how many airlines are honouring ITA status. ;-) Not very "Skyteam" if you ask me.

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

Why not match to Vietnam Airlines instead? https://enews.vietnamairlines.com/2024/08/vietnam-airlines-launches-its-status-match-program/

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card and Autogates

June-ish sometime they added extra signage. If you arrive into KLIA1 at the wrong time of day.... it's like 2015 all over again. Insanely long lines -- even for automated gates. I waited 60mins+ last time. KUL is fast transforming into one of those airports (like BKK), where you don't want to...

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card and Autogates

The auto gates say "Malaysian Only", but in reality they work for any of the epassport countries. The signage was put in place after a few highly influential locals complained that Malaysians had no special treatment at airports. If you find yourself in a long queue and there are available...

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

Anyone thinking of doing this match - note that while ITA is a 'Skyteam member', they don't have bilateral agreements with them. What this means is that you may not get any elite status benefits like free bags, seat selection, or lounge access if ITA does not agree with the airline. So, if you...

Family of 5, are points and rewards still worth pursuing? particularly if using platforms like pay.com.au?

A couple of observations as someone who travels in biz with the wife/kids. - If you were never going to buy a biz/first class ticket for cash then there is no saving to be had. You were going to fly economy and are now paying more for biz.... therefore you're still spending more = not a saving...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I expect points bookings not to get any of the bells and whistles. Think about it - if you are paying $20k and the dude next to you is there because he got a signup bonus from a credit card... these are wildly different customer profiles. Points customers are basically there to fill a seat...

Etihad Guest status match for Australian residents [improved offer as of 22/11/24]

Velocity members are ineligible to match to Etihad as they are partners. That makes it easy for you.
