The changes are major and affect how members earn points and how members earn status. Similar grade of changes to Fairer and Simplier.
While I won't detail everything as it is too much to write out, the crux of it are:
- Renaming of all 'Miles' to 'Points'
- Points earning linked to how much...
What brought a cheeky smile to my face was reading the email from Enrich.
Specifically the first few sentences, and the last paragraph.
then at the end
Perhaps I can put this here and members can work out for themselves what the program changes might mean to them.
The program changes are...
Qantas could have said 'arrivals access is a benefit of plat and this is a temp measure until xx_xx_xx_ when arrivals access will absolutely be coming back for plats' -- but no, they went with a generic comment. Maybe there's no smart comms folks left at QF.
Trust in arrivals access coming...
Japan has one of the lowest trust factors for vaccines in the world.
In other news, Japan has the healthiest, and longest-living populations in the world.
Agree the QF statement is comms-spin-101. In fairness what could anyone expect Qantas to clarify?
The elephant in the room is that a benefit is removed-by-stealth, and the likelihood of it coming back, in my opinion, is zero.
What if 70% of the population doesn't want to? What if Governments are wrong on the entire approach to this? How often are Governments spot-on with your best interests? What if the way out of this mess is to open up the world, right now - today - without any further restrictions?
Governments...
Airline JVs like this almost always never benefit the customer.
Once you remove the fluffy marketing junk in the proposal (ie: improved benefits for frequent flyers), all that remains - and effectively what a JV represents to the average flyer is: Government endorsed/legalised collusion...
Allow me to assist you with completing the list.
1. First it was "flatten the curve".
2. Then "supress with contact tracing"
3. Then "safe and effective vaccine"
4. "Keep the public safe from Covid-UK version"
5. "Safe and effective vaccine UK version"
6. "Covid-2022 is here...need to protect...
"50,000 in year 2 upon renewal".......... can hardly count towards the headline 200K number.
A bit shady no?
It's like saying, get 1,000,000 points on signup - 150k now and 50k per year for the next 17 years upon each renewal and paying the full annual fee.
Agree with all you say!
Minor tidbit..... Amex pays for your Accor Plus membership (that includes free hotel night+Accor Silver). Amex doesn't necessarily pay for the other benefits.
Covid is the perfect excuse to cut back on almost everything. Due to covid, due to covid, due to covid.
Whatever way you skin it - there's a removal of a Platinum benefit in place, and it seems most folks are accepting it without a fight.
Make no mistake folks, Qantas won't bring this back as...
Amex inks these partnerships under the guise of 'we bring high-value customers to your business', when in reality - it's the other way around. Think about it - in the absence of elite status perks, would you pay the annual extortion fee?
The loyalty programs are waking up to that Amex needs to...
More like rex has joined the 2005's. The website is very average by today's standards.
I can't help but think rex will be a thing of the past in a year from now.
Look at it this way.
Qantas has zero international network, and your points are competing against 12M other Qantas members + 200M oneworld members.
Singapore Airlines has an extensive international network, and your miles are competing against 4M SQ members + Zero Star Alliance members...
Qantas & Virgin likely won't reduce pricing because they have a captive audience. Which is why I don't recommend putting ANY points into those programs (I'd go for cashback before QF/VA points).
Look at
Qatar
Jetblue
Malaysia
Air Asia
Air Canada
Just some of the airlines that have reduced...
If I were a betting man, I'd put my stake on award flight prices reducing over the coming year, along with cash pricing, and thus, why lock in something so far in advance at "2019 peak pricing" with so much on your side as a traveller?
