    United Booking with VA Gold

Hi team, Just booked United economy 3 pax return Madrid-NYC for March. Obviously no alignment, but they are a Singapore Airlines partner. I think best action is to create Singapore KrisFlyer accounts, then move points (presume I can't move status credits) across to Virgin from there? Any advice...

(Cheap) Air China: Business Europe to Australia & SE Asia (limited availability)

OK - this works INCREDIBLY well for me! I will likely book - I am Platinum with Virgin Australia - can anyone advise best program to allocate this trip to? Would love status with another carrier now I'm based in EU!

    Melbourne International new security schemozzle

I concur with statements above that this system is slower than the old manual way. The 3-4 times I've done it while the wait to begin hasn't been awful, they've only had one open carousel for priority and one for regular guests - get an air crew through and all of a sudden priority is slower.

    Etihad/Virgin Gold Luggage Allowance Confusion

HI all, Just back in Madrid after return Madrid/Melbourne flight (with Abu Dabi stopover) and thought I'd share my experience about confusion around luggage allowances. I believe recently Etihad have reduced lowest fare allowance to 23kg from 30kg. I booked on lowest fare, but was 30kg when I...

Newly based in Madrid - long time lurker!

Hah - yes, I have been to the lounge at MAD Terminal 1 and was less than impressed compared to what we are used to in Australia. We have flown Iberia, Vueling, AirFrance, BA, Easyjet and I'm sure others and they have all been on par with Jetstar or Virgin really. Big bus in the sky.... Thanks...

Newly based in Madrid - long time lurker!

Thanks for the tips @cove! I have quite a few music industry colleagues here, and most weeks friends are touring through here, so we are going OK so far! Yes, low cost seem to be the way forward here - though I miss my free coffees and champagnes in the Virgin lounges!

    Etihad seat assignment advice

Replies below from my experiences in May, July and August on EY to Madrid from Melbourne. Sadly completely correct. Does nothing. Even calling VA doesn't help. Yes, I have reassigned my seat on each of my flights this year at the EY lounge in MEL and at the counter at MAD. Have had seat...

Newly based in Madrid - long time lurker!

Hi all, Have been long time reader, I think this is my first post! My family of 3 have just relocated to Madrid for work and life opportunities. I will be travelling back to AU/MEL once a quarter to check in on business things. I have ironically just dropped from Virgin Platinum to Gold, but...

EY sale fare disparity to LHR v CDG

I have seen today cheaper Etihad flights to Dublin. I now live in Madrid (and do the MAD-MEL flight 3-4 times a year) and sometimes it also drops to those prices. I've not seen Etihad so cheap to London before, but I have seen it to their other direct EU outlets under AU$1000 at certain times...

    1 VA Platinum or 2 x Gold?

If it’s one of you mainly doing the travelling, or you’re travelling together, go Platinum. If you’re travelling separately a lot, go Gold.

    Kimpton Hotels

We stayed at a few of them on our honeymoon in 2008. Great, quirky hotels (not as high end but similar approach to QTs in Australia.) Washington, Seattle and Sam Francisco. They were relatively new since then and had introductory prices. Have looked at them since but they have jumped out of...

    Headphone adapters in SQ

My experience over the last couple of years and a dozen trips is that the headphones they provide include the adaptor - so we have stockpiled them for other flights. They're flimsy though. ** EDIT ** in Economy
