The more obvious link is that they are both substantially owned, ultimately, by News Corp (via BSkyB in the case of Sky News) and developed as an arm of their pay TV interests. In tone and content they are very, very different.

I can't think of even a vague reason why Australians should pay extra for a QF coded flight if the product is the same. Why shouldn't most Australians just send Alan Joyce $20 a month instead?

Are there issues with a 15yo and lounge access? I would imagine any us based lounge with a self serve bar won't let him in if he's under 21 and unaccompanied?

It's not cost effective for the very small number of routes that would need it. It would require a whole new infrastructure and there are only a handful of routes (LHR-SYD-NYC, SIN-NYC and i can't think of a lot more) that would really work. The hub and spoke model seems to work pretty well...

I completely agree. It's the same reason I abuse drivers stopped at traffic lights or slowing at give way signs for not reversing. If the signs were doing their job everyone would be driving backwards. It's just common sense.
