Just tough times at the moment, would not like to be in their shoes since the onset of COVID.

I got this and opted for a refund for whole 3K itinerary to BKK, and rebooked JQ a day earlier. Air Asia thankfully has a good connecting time to fly DPS-DMK.

This is very odd and something isn't quite right. Did you fully prepay for this booking at the time of booking? Hotels don't get guest's credit card details and only a virtual credit card to charge Qantas Hotels (Hooroo). I wonder if the hotel had no option but to cancel your booking...

Hopefully... but JQ mainline has never served this route AFAIK (Jetstar has no Darwin-based crew.) To Denpasar from here it's usually been the Adelaide or Cairns-based Jetstar crew...
