Options to transfer large sums to Thailand

If I'm not mistaken there is a Wise 50,000 baht transfer limit per transaction for some Thai banks with the others capped at 100,000 baht per transaction. https://aseannow.com/topic/1246467-wise-transfer-imposes-50k-limit-to-thailand/ We mainly transfer to Government Savings which is not...

    General Medical issues thread

Why is our care in hospitals so poor? Yes I know most here don't agree with me but our experiences in different places are sub-par and well short of even low expectations. My wife was in Royal Brisbane 3 times earlier this year with kidney issues. Poor experience each time. At about 4:00am my...

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Ah yes the good old days of travelling in the 80's and 90's. I also used travellers cheques for the first few trips to Thailand in early 00's. I've carried $6,000-$7,000 AUD with me in the past. Not a big deal at all. For the past 2.5 years I've been using credit cards to purchase beer in...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

We will more than likely go from 2 of us earning VA Platinum in alternate years to both of us earning VA Gold in alternate years but the 50% requirement would mean that possibly just me earning VA Gold each year. That would also depend on any further changes to SQ partnership but if only one...

Qantas Hotels Vouchers used without my permission

@kamchatsky keep insisting that you did not use the vouchers and they've been fraudulently used and to cancel the bookings and issue you new vouchers.

    Scams like these

Apparently they can send an SMS with an attached media file to your phone and there are no links to click on but your phone executes the media file and they can take control of your phone. I think there is still a vulnerability today. Unbelievable the bugs that are left behind.

    What cheeses me off

I've now driven a Chery. I'm still trying to understand how a Chery is Mitsubishi ASX or similar? I struggled to get into car. Seat is low but at 5'9" my head almost hits the roof of the interior. Still $75 for 2 days is worth it. Uber to/from mum and dads would have been $80-$100 and I got...

New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

MP3 player? Paid streaming platform? If an airline charges a premium for airfares then they need to provide IFE otherwise charge the same as the airlines that don't provide IFE. P.S. There's no way I'd be doing 17 hours in economy on any route. I'm not in rush to be anywhere quickly.

New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

So a family of 3 would need 3 tablets and we need to prepare these before flying? Hmmm. Glad we have zero need for these flights. I don't know what would force me to take one of these flights. My wife prefers non-stop BNE-BKK but I'd be much happier with something like BNE-DPS-BKK and split...

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

4 accounts have 10x points offer Interesting that the one account with spend $50 x 4 weeks with 800 bonus points each week has listed last week's effort as failed. Apparently it needed to be activated this week 3 but not for week 4. Makes no sense that offer was activated on week 1 but week 2...

    Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

So I've had a few silly offers that I've ignored. Quite some time now without offers and keep putting a few dollars through Flybuys here and there. Wife's account has had the $50 x 4 week offers and we haven't gone over. Haven't seen anything for 5-6 weeks. Received offers of spend $90 x 2...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Too much and not sure I'd be able to get one now with my troubles. I don't drink much now so lounge membership is not that important. And golf clubs and most of my golf clothes are in Thailand. I'll look at Priority Pass later for wife/daughter.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I'd say we can sacrifice lounge access or fly JQ ex-BNE utilising QF Lifetime Gold. Need to make sure we book early enough to avoid award availability issues.

Re SYD T2/T3, Sydney domestic airport, is it still walkable from either to Ibis budget/

We (me, wife, 8 year old daughter) walk from T2 to Ibis Budget, HI Express or Ibis each time we are in SYD. For Ibis Budget from T2 just keep walking on the right hand side past taxi rank. Think this has not been affected. For Ibis and HI Express from T2 walk down to airport train station and...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Platinum charge card would only give lounge access on domestic flights, not flying SQ? Wife will be Platinum in Jan 2025 until Jan 2026 then Gold until Jan 2027. I'll be Gold until Oct 2025 and have a few months to try and get Gold until Oct 2026. We'll see what happens after that but if JQ...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Sure but those family pooling are still going to get punished. Retaining Platinum was 800 SCs divided by 3 people. Now the Platinum has to earn at least 400 SCs which means some unnecessary flights or 3 x 400 SCs for the family which will cost $14400. That's a ridiculous amount to earn...

Is Aussie Aussie Aussie an Appropriate Call in 2024?

Like the Kop singing "Allez Allez Allez"? I think I first heard "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi" in 1994 Kontiki tour from a Broken Hill girl. Awful. Cringy. Something you'd only expect from a bogan and she was a country bogan.
