FWIW I don’t think VA will ever consider lifetime status. How many members do see here saying “I have Qantas lifetime status, so I will now chase status on other airlines”? Lifetime status can and does work against loyality

I should add that I haven’t flown for a few months, so the invite couldn’t have been generated by recent flights only

I’m not so sure. On booking sites the fares are shown as business class with an asterisk saying “one sector in premium economy”. I would scream blue murder if denied lounge access.

Oh absolutely. I’m astounded at how many business class fares have a premium economy leg. Is this only a recent thing and found only on SQ, or does it happen often? It’s a full business class fare too, not discounted because of one lesser class sector.
