Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Yes. As I recall, this has been reported here a long time ago. No credit card shuffles to boost points available to us.

Article: The Joy of Visiting Emerging Tourist Destinations

Apologies for breaking in with a non-Cuba-related post. Is Georgia still considered to be 'emerging'? My vists were in 2011, 2015 and 2018 - all three times as part of a small tour group (being an older single female), the first and third with John Grahm Tours, which I can strongly recommend...

    Travel Insurance 92yr old

I've done a lot of searching and eventually came across Easy Travel Insurance, which proved to be virtually identical to Cover-More, and underwritten by Zurich. All the contact & claim numbers seem to be those of Cover-More. By increasing the excess and excluding trip cancellation I actually...

    Travel Insurance 92yr old

@infrequent_jim How did you find a travel insurance company that will offer just basic cover for delays, lost luggage etc ? I also used to use just platinum credit card cover, and have never made a claim in many years of travelling. But I'm now 82 and so over their 80 y.o. cut-off. Now I'm...

SIA data loss. No refund for credit after 6 months.

I requested a refund to my credit card a couple of months after the end of June cut off, and was very pleased to receive it in full - after a few days delay for updating the card's expiry date. Much better outcome than I had anticipated. I've now booked for next year using points + pay on the...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Oh dear, that rules it out then. I have no business and I wouldn't wish any illness on my sister. Do we have any idea how long those rules will stay in place?

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I haven't been following this thread, but I discovered today that Australia is listed as a "travel corridor" country with the UK and exempt from quarantine on arrival. Singapore also apparently poses no problem for transit passengers from Australia. So could I travel now to visit my sister in...

    New Credit Card When Retired

Although I'm very far from being in the same league as you regarding assets, I had the same problem in trying to obtain a new credit card after retirement, with no pay-slip evidence of income. My advice is to hold firmly to whatever cards you have and keep them in good standing, as all the banks...

    General Discussion/Q&A on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

My hunch, based on no knowledge or science whatsoever, is that air conditioning, and in particular, the type that recirculates air albeit filtered, is a major contributor to the spread of the virus. Hence the high transmission rates on cruise ships, planes, and meatworks etc.

How much poor 'Covid' service will you tolerate?

Meanwhile letters to and from the UK are taking 4 weeks in each direction. I'm not sure which end is the more to balame.

    Living with COVID-19

And a good proportion of the deaths recorded in Australia were (and still are) from people on cruise ships.

    The C word, R U OK?

Trivial, I know, compared with what some people are facing - and this should perhaps be in the Moggies thread. I've been thinking about adopting an older cat for some while. Now I've located one in foster care that may suit me very well, my need being all the greater because of the current...

The "I am in self-isolation" thread

For excellent frozen meal deliveries I can strongly recommend "We Feed You". Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, but plenty for carnivores as well. (Better than Lite 'n Easy, I'm sure.) I discovered them when I wrenched my knee and couldn't get to shops or even face cooking for myself. Not...

Group tour recommendation for South America

I can personally recommend Kudu Travel, a UK company whose groups are usually only 12 or so. But I haven't been with them to South America.

Those wise old sayings! (and the not so wise and not so old)

Before we leave currency, how about "In for a penny, in for a pound." An elderly lady i used to visit described a social worker looking too smart for visiting a poor neighbourhood: "She was all dressed up like a tuppenny rabbit."
