I'm loking to use up my last cache of MP miles. I'm about 5K short of the 2 legs. i tlooks like I can add 5K miles for 50% the usual cost of the miles via MileagePlus Award Accelerator Has anyone used this and can you confirm the miles are immediately (within a few days) available to be used?

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

To put things into perspective for the current federal budget out of a $464B spendathon $64.3B is assistance to the aged, while assistance to the unemployed and sick is just $10B. I highlight this as too often the media and politicians report about the unemployed as if they're a giant leech on...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

The change had to be made as super was increasingly seen as a tax effective generational wealth transfer system. Soon the cost of super tax concessions will be more than the cost of the aged pension, and both are some of the fastest growing costs to the budget.

Podcast Player - entertainment without the internet

Hopefully this will come in handy for a few. I recently started using Podcast Player on my Android phone (assuming they have an iOS version) It lets me download the videos I'd normally stream via youtube. Has helped to lower my mobile data usage quite a bit. handy when you want something...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

One way to answer the question as to what's enough is to determine the lifestyle you want in retirement. If you want the glossy brochure version of overseas holidays and eating out every week then you're annual expenses could be around 100K a year for a couple. In a financially repressed world...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

I use mostly ETF in my SMSF (use esuperfund for the admin side of things). Costs for ETFs are generally quite reasonable and I like being able to get diversity on the cheap. It all depends on how much responsibility you want to take for the performance. The more you direct the investments the...

    A380 Production Sadness

OPEC + Russia have been trying this and it's not been terribly successful. The Saudis have gave up their role as price setter (swing producer) to the USA. The problem faced by OPEC is that shale oil in the USA is constantly lowering costs. It uses repeated processes across thousands of...

Do you have an annual Points target?

Suppose I've started on the Bonii signups a lot more since last year. It's a relatively easy way to grab lots of points. Used to focus more on Velocity since the NAB Velocity premium Amex would give 1.5 points per $ which was like earning 1.11 SQ miles. Now it's more about earning Amex...

    A380 Production Sadness

not sure. My suspicion is that without a major event in the middle east that oil prices are capped by the cost of US shale oil which has gotten break even costs down below 50 USD, and any spike in oil from a crisis would see a quick increase in shale production. If new tech continues to...

    A380 Production Sadness

It'd be interesting to see with the new routes being opened up how the hub model is working these days? For an end of line country like Australia having smaller aircraft that are viable for direct routes seems like a better future than large 1+ stop flights, though I'm not sold on 17 hours non...

Where are you going in 2018?

Don't miss the falkirk wheel in Scotland. Glengoyne distillery outside of Glasgow is also worth a visit. Was a sad day when I had the last dram I brought back.

Etiquette in the Lounge - stick your earphones in pleeeeaasse!!!

was in the Qatar Doha F lounge last May. The number of guests watching videos using their phone's speaker was shocking to me. The loud phone calls. The only ones doing this were wearing a thawb so no way I was going to say anything, and it's not like the guest workers in the lounge could do...

My feeling was they were happy to cook you something if they had the ingredients. Just make sure you keep room for the 10+ courses you'll be served on your flight.

I need to fly in F with more people like you ;). Though if you're a Dom drinker we'll be fine, but if I see you looking at the bottle of Krug it's champagne corks at 20 paces :D 49 days till my F trip to Japan.

    Osaka to Syd

Think the A330 has a "regional" J seat since the flights are usually not so long. Maybe not the best for a 2300 flight. OK for day trips. Beats flying at the back of the bus though.
